only ships east of mississipi river Review: Green with white edgings - I ordered 2 Reverse Variegated Spider Plants on May 5, 2012 and they arrived four days later on May 9, in 4" round plastic pots. Plants were packaged with recyclable peanuts. The plants look the same as pictured on the internet with green leaves and white edgings on both sides. One plant has two inflorescenses (stems or branches) and the other has three inflorescenses. The plants are small to medium sized. Both have healthy and thick roots throughout the bottom, with one having roots poking through the holes so I put both into larger pots for continued growth. Overall, they are very nice looking and healthy plants and I am very happy with them. July 13, 2012 Update As usual with Spider Plants, these are growing fast. They just need some sun and water. On July 11, I split one into three plants. October 1, 2012 All Spider Plants are doing great. They are very easy to grow. Today, I gave away a baby I rooted. Review: Nice starter plant - Update: itโs 2022 and as you can see in the last picture - this spidey plant is thriving! I have gotten several babies from it that are now also grown to adult plants. I gifted them to friends. Iโm amazed how well she is doing! Made it through a move no problem as well :) The plant consisted of 3 smaller spider plants and arrived neatly and safely packed to avoid damages. I planted it right away in some potting soil. This plant is very easy to grow and perfect for beginners. I got this one for my sons to take care of. Since my purchase the spider plant has grown very well with minimum maintenance (a spot by the window and a little bit of water to keep the soil moist). My kids love that they can see it grow almost by the day. I definitely recommend this one as a starter plant or for children. I included two pictures into this review, one from when it arrived (February 21st) and one from one month later (March 20th).

Nice starter plant

Arrived healthy and ready to replant.
Although I'm not the worst with plants, I'm often busy/worn out from work, family, etc. and am not always able to maintain a strict care schedule, so I usually buy "low-maintenance" breeds. I've never owned a spider plant before but have admired them and knew their reputation for hardiness. I'd just bought a couple really nice 14" ceramic pots and replanted my lovely (and VERY hardy) dragon's tongue, and I needed another plant for the other pot. I did a little research, decided on a spider plant, and ordered one from Hirt's, with which I've had pretty good to very good experiences in the past. It arrived promptly and safely packaged, I let it "rest" for a few days after unpacking, and replanted it in my extra pot with some (highly recommended) Espoma potting mix. A little more than a month later, the spider plant is absolutely thriving -- easily tree times the size it was when it arrived. By way of details, I have it near an east-facing, gauze-curtained window (which isn't the optimal lighting) and water it fairly lightly (2-3 cups) when the surface soil is dry to the touch. In summary: I'm very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it to others looking for an easy to care for, beautifully colored and textured houseplant.

Would definitely buy again
Five stars, I just know people skip 5 star ratings. Packaged well with lots of protection and room to keep the leaves from getting damaged. While small, it had several spiderlings so it could be separated and made into multiple plants. I've seen transferred it to a bigger pot and it has done quite well. Very happy with this purchase! Showed up quickly too and the soil was damp, so the plant wasn't suffering.

Massive rip off...
I was really surprised when I received my plant considering the pictures that were advertised. I expected to see something full and lush, with bright colors. What I received was a very small plant, yellowing, most leaves broken, at five times the price that I could buy it for at the local hardware store. I had purchased this thinking I would receive a plant that was in better condition. The pot wasn't what they show in the photos either, it was a flimsy plant cell pot. I truly believe the photos advertised are misleading compared to the product received. I would rather have been shown the tiny plant that I got for the price rather than something that looked like it was at least 12 times the size and healthy. Then at least I would know what to expect. Hoping that this will perk up after being cared for for a while, but I'm not confident. More and more leaves are dropping every day. Do yourself a favor and find a local nursery to buy direct.

Well, I've got good news and bad news and more bad news
When I received the plant it was very well packaged and arrived looking very healthy. That's the good news. The first piece of bad news is the packing materials that they used. It consisted of packing peanuts, plastic film, and a plastic bag. None of this is recyclable. This item did not come from Amazon but rather from a third party vendor. One of the things that I like about Amazon is that all of their packing materials are recyclable. The other piece of bad news is that the plant that I received is a lot smaller than it appeared on the Amazon website. I do not feel that I got good value for my money.

I'm so PLEASED!
This is actually a gift for a very deserving young mother who is unable to bring her plants with her as she relocates to my area to be with her children. Her beautiful children want to surprise her with her favorite type of plant and they chose this from the amazon website. When it arrived yesterday, I was very happy with the packaging, the fact that it arrived way earlier than projected and, most of all, it was BEAUTIFUL and healthy and will be perfect as a gift for this mother. She will be able to nurture it from young and it will always be able to cherish it as it will be a reminder that her children love her dearly -- enough to remember exactly what type of plant is their mom's favorite. The kids haven't seen it yet, but when they come by to get it, they are going to smile. It is gorgeous.

Transplant Soon!
I purchased two of these recently, and I am very pleased with them. But be warned - they will need to be transplanted to larger pots very soon after you get them. They come in small pots, and outgrow them quickly. It is spring when I am writing this, so they are growing very fast. I transplanted the two I got to larger pots, and they are very happy. I almost waited too long to transplant them; they were starting to look unhealthy. But now they are brighter and standing up straighter. That said, I would give them two or three days at your home before you transplant them. Give them a bit of time to acclimate to your home first, and look for growth. Then move them to bigger pots. They are great plants, and the price is great, too. Just be sure to give them the loving care they need when they arrive.
