Japanese Sencha Fukamushi Green Tea Loose Leaf 3.5 oz

This tea is an excellent bargain for the money that you pay and the amount of tea that you get for the price. The tea is vacuum sealed for freshness. Fukamushi means that the tea is a deep steamed tea. The deep steaming process of the tea imparts a more rich and flavorful tea. This tea most certainly has that umami flavor that many people are looking for in a quality Japanese Sencha tea. I've had many different green tea's and this is one of the better ones that I have tried. This is a high quality Japanese green tea. Very fresh with loads of rich umami flavor and a vibrant green hue to the tea. This tea is not as astringent as other sencha tea's that I have tried. I brew mine using 16 ounces of purified bottled water with 7 to 8 grams of tea. Brewing temperature should be between 160f - 170f. Let this tea brew between 30 seconds to just under a minute, I prefer mine at 45 seconds brew time on the first infusion. You can get about four infusions from this tea, with the second infusion being the most flavorful and the fourth being the thinnest infusion. Just what you would expect from a quality Japanese Fukamushi Sencha tea. Warning, it is very easy to mess up a fukamushi sencha by using water that is too hot or by brewing the tea for too long. As long as you follow the brewing instructions you will enjoy this product. If the tea is bitter then you have used water that is beyond the 175f threshold for this type of tea. If the tea is too astringent then you have brewed the tea for more than 60 seconds. One thing to keep in mind is that deep steamed green tea is very concentrated in flavor and contains lots of catechins. This is a delicate tea and using boiling water or brewing for more than 60 seconds will ruin this tea. For $58 dollars you get a pound of vacuum sealed, quality deep steamed sencha green tea. Sugimoto Sencha has become my new daily drinker. At the price I pay for this tea I don't feel guilty for having 4 to 6 cups a day. I highly recommend this tea to anyone that is looking for a high quality daily drinking Sencha tea.

Best authentic Japanese green tea I had in a long time. It is delicious and potent. Worth the price tag. Love it.

A good basic sencha for the price. Brewed 2.5g per 100ml water, 80c/176f, 60s first steep/30s second/150s third. The good: Tastes like a basic Sencha. Looking at the leaves, smelling the leaves, it isn't low quality and cheaply/badly processed sencha that's common in cheapest-to-produce "sencha" made outside of Japan. Doesn't taste stale. Probably 2021 harvest if I had to guess, but I could be wrong. Not a bad everyday Sencha. The not great: It says on the bag it uses a mix of Spring (Ichibancha/first flush, the most sought after harvest) and Summer (Nibancha, second flush) tea leaves. You can definitely tell that it isn't a standard first flush sencha, though that doesn't mean it's a bad tea. The flavor is pretty light considering it's a fukamushicha, which are known for their deep, strong, brothy flavors/mouthfeel. My best guess is that this tea is mostly second flush with some first flush leaves mixed in to balance out the flavor, deep steamed to bring out better flavor compared to a standard later flush tea rather than deep steamed for the trademark Fukamushi tasting profile. Another giveaway is the color of the liquor, it's not the strong, almost completely opaque green that you normally get from a deep steamed sencha. Overall, like I said earlier, not a bad everyday sencha. You can definitely get better quality for the same price, but you'd have to be willing to spend a lot more money in a single purchase to make shipping cost worth it direct from Japan or pay a premium for already imported tea.

It has been a while since I last got this tea, but I remember that I liked it a lot, even though it is not organic. Also, it was less expensive than the other loose leaf Japanese green teas that I had tried. The flavor and color are very good. However, it has literally doubled in price since I last got it.

I am no connoisseur, but I do enjoy tea from tome to time. I tried a few Gyokuro, a premium sencha from the local asian market, and some Chinese green teas all in the hunt for my favorite green tea and I found it here. It has a very nice flavor that is honestly kind of sweet and floral which is rare for a sencha. Honestly this has an even brighter fragrance than the Darjeeling that I buy and the flavor is very strong and bright, but not bitter. For me this checks all the boxes for value, flavor, and qaulitea!

It's far better than a lot of other Japanese green teas I've tried on Amazon. However, it's still not what I would consider a higher grade Japanese green tea. Firstly, the color is off. It's definitely not as green when brewed as what's depicted on the package, even when brewed with the correct temps and times. It also has a lot of "dust." It's not the worst but not the best. Update: I'm almost done with the bag now and have discovered the tea isn't as bad when brewed at a lower temperature than suggested by the instructions on the package. The instructions suggest 170 F for 1 min. I would suggest brewing this at 140 F to 150 F for 30-45 seconds max. The taste is far better this way.

Fantastic quality. I brew it by the pitcher. Superior quality for sure.
