Easy to open for a 10 year old
Initial assessment is that the construction seems solid and did the boiling water test overnight and it was still warm the next morning. Easy to open for a 10 year old.The lid got pretty warm after a few minutes. Not scalding but uncomfortable but there was freshly boiled water inside. Unsure if it's because the lid has less insulation than the name brands. Could also be due be the vent feature which I do like and am willing to trade some insulation properties for. The ability to release the vacuum caused by cooling is a nice to have. What I really like about the design is that the inner lid is all plastic and you don't have to worry about it coming apart like some of the name brands where the lid is plastic glued to the stainless shell. The bowl part might have that problem down the line but is subject to less stress. Also the bottom is stainless which will probably result in more dings but the plastic bottoms on our 10oz thermos brand containers have all fallen off because the glue stopped working. Even before that happened water would get in and take forever to get out.I'll update the review in a couple months after it gets beat on and see about how well the gaskets wear or if the lid is too hard to keep clean over time.--2 month update: Original container is still working well although there are a couple dents on the bottom. Purchased another one for my other kid. We remove the gasket to wash every night and I worry that I'll tear the thing eventually even though it has been sturdy and has held up just fine. Hopefully they sell replacements. The plastic in the lid/cup is fairly soft. Enough that it has some gouges from a fork.--1 year update: Slightly more dented by rough handling this thermos is still working great. After a while we started tossing this in the DW rather than hand washing them and it's still okay although the glue on the cup has failed. I should probably try to hot glue it back on again. We have 2 of these now and will get more.

simpler is better. bad lid.
The previous food jar I owned had a rubber ring on the inside that wasn't removable, but got gunk under it. So, when shopping for a replacement, I was looking for something with a smooth inside. The simpler, the better. I purchased this thinking I had found a good candidate but ...While the jar itself is good -- solid construction, easy to clean, no small nooks and crannies -- the lid that seals the jar sucks. It's got a valve to release any pressure that builds up in the jar but when washing the lid, water can get into it, and the lid itself is hollow. I now have a lid with liquid in it I cannot get out. Imagine all the microbes and lil' nasties that will grow in there. This would be a great jar had they just went with a lid with no valve. I'll be chucking this in the recycling.

It works well, but for the price, the lid is often hard to get on and the rubber seal is ill fitting.

After 7 hours in a air conditioned area (60*F), this still keeps my food hot. It is not very big, so do not plan to use it for a big meal. I love the little exhaust button on the 2nd seal to release the steam so you can open your cap easily.

So very pleased!!!
I absolutely love it! I heat soup or leftovers at about 7:00 and put it in the jar. At noon it is still hot (not warm). I've only used a plastic one before so don't have much to compare it to, but it is so convenient and works wonderful, and also perfect size!
