Yes, it is flat at the back. We have ours against a wall.

Where does the electrical for the pump and light come out of the fountain?

The light shines through a hole in the bottom part of the fountain in the water.

Approximately how much water does the lower basin hold?

I haven't measured but I'd say five or six gallons. It's about the size a deep and good sized sink.

How much water does it hold

Just filled ours, and holds about 3 gallons. Remember, you will need to outlets, one for the pump and one for the LED light. Hope this helps!
