UPDATE: It has been a year and a half since purchasing this mat, it has started to crack a little and I do believe now the only reason it hadn't before is because I am very lightweight. As soon as my husband started using my office once a week, the mat started to crack. Disappointing, but I was able to get a ton of use out of it, and even now the cracks aren't that bad, I just know the replacement date is coming up soon. Arrived flat, was easy to plop down on the carpet before setting my rolling chair on top. It has not cracked yet or shown any signs of wear for that matter. It does have an issue with sliding around, but it is very thick and I believe the top review is right that with some double sided tape it will stay still. The carpet in my home office is very thick, and so this thing has been a lifesaver. Before purchasing this mat I could barely use my chair, but now I am free to roll around! :)

I've had this mat for a little more than 1 year and it's already breaking and cracking from where my desk chair wheels sit. It's a strong and durable mat but not for anyone who regularly sits at a desk for (I'd say) 8 or more hours a day (IE: You work at home, like to game, etc.). I'd be curious to know how thick or thin the carpets of most of these 5-star reviews are and how many hours they spend at their desk, but in my specific case, I have carpeting that is about roughly 1/4 inch thick (give or take) and almost immediately in a few days noticed dipping in the mat (which then lead to the cracks/breaking of the mat). I should also note that the fragments can fly off due to how the material is and can have some decently sharp edges if you have small children/newborns. All-in-all not for me, at least not at this price point. I could've gotten a desk mat for half the price at Walmart which would've lasted me roughly the same amount of time which is honestly disappointing considering I was looking mostly for something that would last a long time. I will say though, if you don't sit at your desk for long periods, this mat could be worth it for you, it all just depends on what it is you're looking for. Also, understand this is just my one experience and I may not have the same environment as you (temperature, carpeting thickness/type, etc.), but I hope this is helpful for someone! Update: I ordered a follow-up mat once mine became unusable in hopes of maybe partnering it with an office carpet on top to make it last longer (I'm a lost cause), but before I could even order myself a carpet (within a couple weeks of having it), it LITERALLY started to crack and break once again... I want to emphasize this product is $110 and started failing in W E E K S.. 😐

1st - Great mat. No waiting for it to flatten out. Heavy duty steel frame, very heavy chair rolls beautifully. Very pleased. 2nd - Almost took off another star - Yes, I know they have a warning on the rolled up mat (although I didn't see at first). And yes, they warn you and show a video. STILL, I underestimated the strength it required to keep the mat under control while cutting the plastic wrap that held it in place - I thought if I was on the side of it, I wouldn't get hurt. But, holding it tightly, when the last of the wrap was cut the mat did not just open automatically - it exploded!! No melodrama here.... I had no control over it at all and fell forward very hard onto the back side of the mat (where all the little spikes are). Bruising and bleeding from cuts. SOOOO, take them seriously - you need two people or one very strong person who has great balance to open this thing up. So grateful it didn't hit my face.

I normally don't write reviews, though I do read the reviews when purchasing a product on Amazon. I purchased my back in September 2020 during COVID as I have been working from home. I purchased another office chair mat for a medium carpet pile and the mat would dent in when I sat on the chair. I returned it and bought this mat as it came shipped flat and the description stated it was pure polycarbonate made for medium or less carpet pile and was considered to be heavy duty. Well, as i type this review in May 2021, about a week ago I was sitting on my office chair with the standard black castor wheels that came on my $1000 Steelcase chair and I leaned to the side on my chair and I heard a snap. Upon further investigation I realized the snap came from the mat. The mat developed a 3 inch crack where one of the wheels was at. I was shocked as I have been using this mat daily for work at home and college studies on the computer. Overall the quality is great, very thick and with the carpet spikes underneath, but despite the spikes, the mat does tend to slide over time and I have to reposition it once a week due to it sliding about 6-7 inches from the original spot of placement. I contacted the seller, Mat Stores, regarding the warranty and possible replacement. I received a prompt response asking for pictures of the chair, wheels and carpet thickness. I replied with the information that was requested and I have not heard back from them and it has been over a week. Just be cautious on carpet that are around 1/2 inch thick as it appears to much direct pressure may cause this mat to fail. I have come across other mats that are 1/5 inch and may be a better option for carpets around 1/2 inch. So, far my customer experience is not satisfactory and I will try and reach out to them again.

I put this mat in a small area where I have a computer/accessories wood work station. There are walls at the back and both sides. I have base board at the bottom of the walls. This mate measures 471/4 X 53 inches (at least mine did). I laid the mat on carpet and it was approx.1/8 inch from either side wall and touching the back wall. I then installed a wood molding on the mat at the bottom of the baseboard on the three walls. The mat will not move. It looks very nice and seems to be extremely sturdy. I cannot attest to durability since I have not had it down very long. I am approx. 210-215 lbs and that (with the chair) leaves an indentation in the mat but doesn't last. The mat is not very thick but has the "spikes" on the back to hold in the carpet. I would like to comment on the mat when received. It was in a box rolled up as some other reviewers have stated. And as others have said it will try to go back to it's FLAT condition when the securing wrapping is released/cut. It would be best to have someone help at this point but if you are like me-don't want to ask anyone for help unless absolutely necessary. If the wrapping is cut and there is nothing else holding it in the coiled condition it WILL open up with a LOT of force and could possibly cause harm. This is what I did: Took a rope and made a small loop in one end and placed the other end through that loop making a lasso. Before the mat wrapping is cut any-place the rope around the mat approx. in the middle. Look to see how the mat will open when the wrapping is cut. Tie the other end to some stationary hold down point. I did this in the yard (didn't have room in the garage). Then start slowly cutting the plastic binding from one side with one hand and hold the rope in the other hand. As you cut the binding the mat roll will start to open-give it a little slack by pulling the rope towards you an carefully relaxing to let it slowly open. It may jerk but if you have it tied down it cannot open fully. Then start cutting the wrapping from the other side from where you started and cut toward the middle. It will only open so far then you can pull the rope toward you and relax for slack until it is fully opened. I left it in the sun and it will take a while to get back in a complete flat condition but not long. Hope this helps others out there. This is a very good item and I highly recommend it.

I just received and installed this rectangular carpet protector. As a consequence I cannot comment on durability yet, but I suspect it will hold up. Please be aware in my comments below that my standards for purchases are high. Nevertheless I have assigned 5 stars, for now. It comes rolled up, but surprisingly it lays flat immediately. There's no waiting for it to flatten out. Some things that come up in other reviews are worth commenting on. Yes, it springs open, or can, when you cut the band that has kept it rolled up. My strategy was to put two cinched men's 36" leather belts for pants on either side of the band, fastened at their last notches. That stopped the spring soon after I cut the band. Then I removed one belt, causing a restrained spring on one side, and stepped away to remove the other. The pad sprang open fully but in a controlled way. As someone comments, the size is not a full 48"x60". Mine is 47.25x59. Good enough for my situation but maybe not everyone's. It's very close to the full size. A few people mention that their protector moves around. Mine does not. The round teeth on the underside are .4 cm, about 1/6th of an inch, with tapered ends. They are digging gently but sufficiently into my low nap carpet for the pad to hold firmly. There is no slippage when I roll back along the long axis and turn 90 degrees to work at my second desk. My carpet is quite thin. How it would hold on a thicker carpet, I can't say. I weigh 195 lbs; my desk chair is an old Herman Miller arm chair, heavier than the ergonomic chairs they are selling now and heavier than many current desk chairs. The roll along the surface is slightly bumpy, not absolutely smooth, probably because of the substantial weight of me and the chair and because the pad is flexible rather than solid and unbending. The functionality is certainly good enough. Whether the pad is both thick enough and of the right material to be durable remains to be seen. I'm happy to have it. I'm glad that I paid the extra cost for something this substantial.

This mat is hard, flat, mostly stable on medium pile carpet (standard carpet in California), and does the job well. The mat arrived flat in a large thin box. (Some customers received theirs rolled up. This mat is much too hard to roll up. Other customers must have received the wrong item.) The mat is solid and flat under my heavy rolling office chair. The chair rolls around when I want it to and stays stable when I don't push it. The mat stayed mostly stable, but shifted slightly each day, so I pushed it a little further forward and put an office machine on top of one corner and now it doesn't move at all. There's enough more than enough space on the mat to hold my chair, allow me to roll a foot to the right and still not have the rightmost wheel reach the edge of the mat. Some customers complained that the mat bowed in the center so that the edges were raised 1/4" above the carpet. That's not happening on this mat. The mat is see-through. The array of stubs holds it to the carpet. So far, very good since I got it a month ago to replace an old mat I got from Staples that was a little mushy and broke in a few places after five years. If the new Marvelux mat is durable for a couple of years, I would highly recommend it.

This worked great until it cracked under one of my chair wheels. It felt thick and durable enough for daily use but couldn't stand up to my heavy chair. For what it is I don't understand why it costs so much.
