Streamlight 88040 ProTac HL 750-Lumen Professional Tactical Flashlight with CR123A Batteries, and Holster, Black, Clear Retail Packaging

I am a flashlight guy. I have dozens of them, and I use them professionally as well as around the house. I have a lot to compare this light to, including several high quality lights from Maglight, Surefire, Streamlight, Coast, Dorcy and several cheapo brands that I have tried through the years. This light is as good as any I have had. The ProTac HL is extremely bright, and it feels as strong and sturdy as you would expect from Streamlight. The tail switch functions smoothly and feels durable with no "misses". After research, I purchased this light to be installed on a tactical rifle. It is just right for my application, because I prefer a light that can cast a wide beam far down range. This light does that. it will light up the world between you and your target, including every inch of the ground between you and your target. This relaxes your peripheral vision and allows you to be sure of what is around your target. Some like a tightly focused beam, and if that is your thing, this light may not be for you. But I can tell you that this light will give you good downrange illumination almost as good as the tightest of beams. Streamlight did not make any shortcuts here that I can see. The price for this light seems low to me. It is an outstanding value when you compare it to other lights in its class. A 600 lumen light that is made by one of the best in the industry and has quality components for far less than you would pay for most similar lights. Amazon's price for this light is incredible. Another positive for this light is the programmable tail switch. For a rifle application I prefer a on/off clicky cap, and this light can do that. If you prefer a series of high/low/strobe, it can do that, too. You choose the setting you want. It programs reliably and once you set it it will stay on your setting until you change it - at least mine has. If there is any con to this light I guess you could say it is the relatively short battery life. This is probably true of most high lumen tactical flashlights, so the ProTac is not unique here. The simple truth is that you cannot get high lumens and a powerful beam without burning energy. There are some rechargeable lights out there, but you will pay handsomely for them, and I think they are over-rated based on past experiences with them. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong for the ProTac HL, especially for the price Amazon is selling it for. *****UPDATE 06/21/13 I should add that this light fits perfectly into the Elzetta ZFH1500 tactical flashlight mount with no modifications necessary to the mount - for those that are interested in that fact. I also recommend that mount for those looking for a tactically sound way to install a light on their AR-15. Good luck.

Responding to HAEF/And My own Review. #1. Good Review. #2. Your being a bit to picky. Extra low, Strobing Issues. We're Big Boys here we know what's moving and what's not etc.. A quick word on Strobing, it is good for disorienting an Assailant or Emergencies, IE stranded Etc... By the way Even 200 Lumens is Enough to Blind ANYONE! So you can make a break for it. Or Jump them and Pound'em! #3. You don't compare a 15-200 Lumen light to a 35-600 lumen light. I'll give you some Concrete Knowledge/Backround in a moment. OK, a proper comparison would be, the SureFire P2X Fury, 15-500 Lumens and the Protac HL 35-600 Lumens. They both have the same Head/Glass diameter 1.37, this a factor in Volume of light. Now, SureFire, 15 lumens on low is ok. It's better than no light. With a runtime of 46 hours. Streamlight, 35 lumens with a runtime of 18 hours. Significant Difference. Streamlight got it Right for the low output BIGTIME. That's the kind of light output for navigating in the DARK. Mountains, Woods, A Blackout in your Neighborhood. Which is what happened a few nights ago. So I took All my lights out and ran tests on them. I'll tell you what I have in a minute. You can Clearly Identify things at 50 yards with 35 lumens. Not So with 15 Lumens. Now Same two lights on High. SureFire 500 Lumens 1.5 hours Runtime, BANG, your in Cammand Dead ahead from 0-150 Yards of Quality useable ILLUMINATION. HotSpot, Spill, Navigational light aka flood. Let There be Light Factor. Now Streamlight, 600 Lumens! 1.25 Runtime. Same Reaction with a little bit More Punch having an extra 100 Lumens. And you can tell the Streamlight Gives More Light when held Side by Side. The Streamlight is a bit more concentrated of a beam which gives it more Throw. I looked at both reflectors. The SureFire is a bit pitted. The Streamlight reflector is Smooth as Glass. The SureFire after Ten+ Minutes on High you will not be able to hold with the naked hand. Not so with the Streamlight. They knew this and Postponed release of the HL until they Concoured the Heat Problem. By the way the lights reach out farther for Sure. I go by being able to IDENTIFY objects Clearly. IE, Cat, Bike leaning against a wall a Person a vacum cleaner. You get my meaning. My E.D.C. - Every Day Carry, is The Protac HL Programmed for Low-High 35-600. Now some of you maybe Trippin on the RUNTIME Differance. Here's the Solution, type in part#2327 Pelican, this is the Pelican Holster, With a Spare Batteries pouch. SWEET. only $5.00. It has a strap on the back with a snap on it so you can remove it from your belt or put it on without loosening your belt. You otta be carrying spare batts anyway. Vehicle, purse, pocket whatever. This holster is the answer. Now, it will work with The Protac HL. It WILL Not work with the P2X Fury. The Overall heads to big. So you know, I Like Both SureFire and Streamlight products. SurFire is Pricy though. The Big+ is Streamlight Posts The ANSI/NEMA FL1 Standards. SureFire does not. O, I have a Nikon ProStaff 550 RangeFinder. Very Nice. There is your how do I know My Yardage Question. OK what I have for lights/ILLUMINATION. SureFre P2X Fury 15-500, and the M6LT Gaurdian 900 Lumens!!! 45,000 CandlePower. Has a Magazine that holds 6 3 Volt Liths. 9 Volt Bulb. People refer to there best as the Beast. Negative. This is THE DEMON!!! During the blackout, I OWNED My ENTIRE Neighborhood with My M6LT Gaurdian. I live at the end in a court. My street, That's 250 Yards long. Streamlights I own now, Protac HL 35-600 Lumens, PolyTac LED HP 150 Lumens. Don't be Fooled by the LUMENS. This has a HUGE! Potent Navigational Beam and a Tight Beam WELL out to 125+ Yards. 3+ Hours Runtime. A MUST have in your collection. A Supertac X 10-200-Lumens and Strobe. A Monster Head on this one. Great for AnyThing Great Runtime. Waypoint 20-210 Lumens and Strobe, Spotlight has a Tight Beam 4c Cells Great Runtime. Hundreds of Yards. There IS, More. But That's good for now. O! Schöne Lampe zu einem leider sehr hohen Preis. Die Leuchtkraft ist enorm! Leider lässt sich die Lampe nicht fokussieren. Man hat einen fokussierten Strahl mit einem kräftig ausgeleuchteten Kegel drum rum. Die Verarbeitung der Lampe ist sehr gut. Ein Minus Punkt sind die teuren fotobatterien, die sich aber durch einen entsprechenden Akku ersetzen lassen. Einen Stern Abzug für den hohen Preis,
