Stops were code required; easy installation...
I picked up a 2590 valve (with stops; threaded for 1/2" pipe) because my local code inspector said stops were required, explaining to me that when it came time to change the cartridge in this unit, I wouldn't have to shut off water to the whole house. Cryin' shame, because I'd much rather shut the water supply off for a few minutes every few years vs. spend the money and time to install this new valve. Oh, well... At Home Depot -- where I purchased my Moen Banbury shower-only faucet -- didn't have **any** options in **any** brands for valves with stops. So I went online. Amazon's price was within a few bucks the cheapest price that I found elsewhere, just FYI. A couple of things: I confirmed by email that this valve would indeed work with my faucet. Moen wrote me that (1) the 2590 will work with all current models of the Posi Temp faucets, and (2) I would only need to plug up the unused 4th (bathtub faucet) port with a brass plug, and NOT a complicated loop-back into the shower line as a poster suggested on the Terry Love plumbing forum. Installation was as close to painless as soldering copper can be. This valve is about 1.5 inches wider than the no-stop valve it replaced. It just took a couple of cuts of the old copper, slid on some copper repair couplings, and the new valve was back in place in a matter of minutes. And of course I would only have had to have done this once if I picked the correct valve from the get-go. I picked this version with the threaded inlets instead of the one with the soldered inlets so that I wouldn't have to directly heat the valve, possibly damaging the cartridge.

It's my go-to
I am a contractor and this is the valve I insist on when doing a shower. Goes in fast and is reliable. Further, Moen is the best when it comes to customer service. If the cartridge ever goes, they'll send you a new one pronto. The isolation valves are required by code in my county, but I'd get them either way -- makes installation and/or repairs much easier.

another Moen that takes 2 times to do the charm..grrrr!
so, i had Moen plumbing basically in all my bathroom renovation...one of them was diverter and this one was temp valve... Both items had to be returned and exchanged - exchanged because lots of other pieces were moen, including the trim and so on...so i really was not looking to redo everything...this particular valve worked fine first...then, week later started acting up by running cold water and no hot water, my shut off valve was fully open, i removed the insert and the water was blasting through the casing of the valve...but then i put back the valve insert and no hot water, like barely warm - seems super odd because nothing looked wrong with the valve insert... anyway - called amazon - they were amazing, send super quick replacement, and sh.t worked GREAT after that! i hope it stays that way! I hear from plumbers its common thing with valves and not only Moen, that they can go bad or be defective. I gave 4 stars since, even though i had problem first, its ultimately was resolved and it works.

Good brand good product
Did an DIY project and so far has no leaks (4 months) The cartridge is very hard to pull out straight out of the box. Why I need to take the cartridge out? Cuz I don’t want the torch to melt any plastic parts when welding.

Moen Quality Can't Be Beat
I had to relocate my shower valve after I knocked down a dividing wall in my bathroom. I figured it was best time to upgrade. I chose this unit to match the rest of the Moen valves throughout the house and this one included the stops for service later. Installation was straightforward, although the instructions could have been a little more descriptive. The 4 ports are all 1/2" FNPT, if you don't have a tub drain connection to install on the bottom, a lot of moen valves come with a 1/2" Male threaded test plug that you could use. Turning the valve has shown a little troublesome as it catches towards the hot side, but this may go away over time and use. Make sure you plan an access panel on the other side of the wall so you can service this valve later, if needed.

It's a moen. Does exactly what it says.
It's a moen. It's expectect to just work. Before first use, note the orientation of the cartridge, take it out, flush the system (both hot and cold), put the cartridge back in.

There delivery was too long.
