Love these rods - LONG TERM user here...
Can't say enough good things about these rods. I have used them in kayaks, canoes, hiking, and on the motorcycles - both dirt bikes and Harley's for many years. My son ended up breaking a tip off one while 4 wheeling pretty hard in Colorado...so I swapped him out my last available one. I tried 2 other telescopic rods for a few months...and just missed the feel of these rods. Simple, tough, and casts like a dream with baitcaster, spincast or open face whatever you feel like. - (EVEN USED AS A FLY ROD NOW! added 12/18) Incidentally, my son did not have the tip/guides protected as he lost our "diy tip protector" on a multi day camping trip. I always cut out the bottom off a water bottle and slip it over the top guides. (Lid still on) A rubber band around the water bottle sides and I've it protects the tip/guides with no added weight. Great rods for a great price. Can't find them locally anymore, glad to see em on Amazon Prime. I have several in my rotation...might need to just buy a few to keep and put up if they are getting scarce...but then again, I bet some of mine are pushing 15 years old and still going strong. Edit 12/2018 - this summer/fall I started fishing with a backpack that held 2 of these - one set up with a Zebco 33 micro...and one set up as a FLY ROD! (yes, a fly rod!) and a short, inexpensive Tenkara Rod I got here on Amazon. ALL of these rods are way under 18"...they fit IN my fishing backpack easily...and I now can hike, fish, explore with this pack and cover about any kind of water I encounter! I used in on the Harley...it's all good. I LOVE these rods and I LOVE having choices with me...maybe a long, long way from my bike or Jeep...and NOT having to take apart a 4,5, or 7 piece fly rod is AWESOME! NO, I can't cast a full fly line...or maybe not more than 50 feet with this rod...but really...I don't encounter those issues on the types of trips I use this rod as a fly rod for! I've got plenty of regular fly rods for open water - big water - etc... But I do confess...the ease of use of it spoils me...I've even taken this "DIY fly rod set up" in the canoe and kayak. It's works just fine for casts up to 40 or even 50 feet! I can't say enough about these rods - and I have landed HUNDREDS OF FISH over several decades with these rods. Tiny to good sized...trout, bluegill, crappie, drum, carp, hybrids, stripers, wipers, and more. Is there a better value? I'm not sure...but I flat out love these rods. UPDATED 12/17/2019. Recently went fishing in the bass boat. Had 5 of these amazing rods rigged with mostly Abu Garcia baitcasters...and 2 with zebco 33 micros. The one with a 3.5" swimbait and a 1/8 ounce swimbait head landed 25 Stripers in about 3 hours. TWENTY FIVE! Big landing net, 12 pound line on the baitcaster, and many of these five were around 20+ inches long...4-7 pound stripers that fought HARD, as stripers will...they are solid muscle. These rods can handle a ton. Also, I didn't land it, but I hooked a catfish that was probably 15-20 pounds...easily 3 feet long... my fishing buddy tried to get it in the net but it started rolling and straightened the 1/0 size fish I was using for the bass I was targeting. It was a crazy fun fight for more than 5 minutes. This rod (again with an Abu baitcaster that time too) fought the fish just fine! I guess since I'm a fly fisher and have used UL rods all my life, I've learned how to fight fish on light rods. If you break rods, you might want to pick up a cheap fly rod and check out how a 10 inch panfish can fight hard on a 3 at fly rod! And... it will teach anyone to fight the fish from the butt if the rod, with patience, not horsing and breaking the tips. Just an idea anyway. Best rods I own. And I own some really great rods that cost a ton. I might switch over to these 100%!

Great lil rod
If you are looking for a rod you can pack with you that will actually catch fish this is the ticket. I bought two of these to carry in our kayaks and I have used them both quite a bit. Granted they are not a $200 graphite rod but for the money and portability you can't go wrong. We have had zero problems with either rod. Some people can break anything and these rods could be abused fairly easily. But with just a bit of care and patience I can see these rods lasting us a very long time. You just want to make sure you do not extend it by snapping the rod and letting it extend on it's own. If you do the rod sections will really lock together and make sliding them back in very hard. When you do go to slide them back in do not push from the tip. Instead grasp the rod near the joint and slide it down from there. If you try to push it from the tip you will break it and that is not the rods fault. I have caught a lot of fish on these ranging from blue gill to bass to a 3 lb channel cat. The rod has handled them all with ease. I put small frame ulta light spinning reels on both rods and they are really fun to fish with. We fish from our kayaks and they fit in the hatches with ease. They will also fit well on our new sail boat. For the money I think they would be hard to beat!

Not a bad traveler
Got this one for a trip. Travels well in the suitcase. The top eyelet guide (the little plastic insert) fell off after a few casts but it didnโt really affect the performance. Feels kinda flimsy but worked fine for my sonโs little spinning reel. Also put a bait caster on for a bit. Both were good. Even caught a little bluegill and it didnโt break during the epic battle. Survived 2 trips, 3 days of fishing. Thumbs up.

be ready to fish any time
I had one of these years ago and gave it away to some kids who wanted to fish. I just got a couple to have a rod in the car/truck in case of opportunity fishing. I forgot how much I love this little pole. Fishes way better than you'd expect for the price/material. you can throw a Panther Martin stye spinner a solid mile with this pole. I took them up with my wife and son thinking we might fish crappies on a little lake, but we skunked. The next day we went and fished trout on a little stream, and it was magic. We caught monsters and these poles did just fine. We got some 2-4 pound trout, that loved the fight and no issues with collapsing or bending. As for the action. I love it. It is just a neat little product and it's amazing to be able to have a pole "just in case" taking up no space in the back seat.

Good value for the price
So far so good. I've used this a handful of times. It's handy for back pack trips where I know I'll be fishing but don't want to lug a full size pole with me.

Nice rod...
I love this rod... I'm planning on using this on canoe trips because this will be easier to store than a full length rod. This rod would also be nice for someone to throw into their vehicle for when they decide they want to fish on the spur of a moment. This would also be nice for people to throw into campers or rv's. I was a little worried about ordering when I saw numerous reviews about the tip breaking when telescoping it back down but I decided for the price to try it anyways. I've opened and closed it maybe over 50 times with no problems. I think anyone who has had one break is using improper methods to get it collapsed. I'm guessing that when the people went to collapse the tip they grabbed the very tip and jammed it down and broke it. If you are going to collapse the tip instead of grabbing the very end grab the top section of the rod an inch or two above the second section and gently push it down. I think this rod can take quite a bit of abuse with no problem and the problems stated in other reviews aren't because of the quality of the rod, it's more because those people weren't paying attention to taking care of their stuff. This rod it a really great deal for the price. I might order one more so I'll have two for canoe trips. This will be a really great rod as long as you take care of it and pay attention to what you're doing when you collapse it.

perfect for quick fishing project
Bought this just to be able to quickly go fishing with my son: we grab 2 of these and a small tackle box and we can fish all day. It's a bit short, but the action is really nice - not too firm or too soft, but nicely flexible. It feels like it's all fiberglass. Eyes are OK, and the nut to hold on the reel hasn't come loose yet. These poles are a bit short, but we can cast really well with them. They quickly collapse and we throw them in the back of the SUV. Really nice, fully recommend them.

Okay pole at a five star price
I'm only giving this pole five stars because it was so cheap. For performance and build quality I'd probably only give it three or four stars, but since it's pretty cheap I consider it a great value and gave it five. It collapses down to about 17" and fits in my Osprey Manta 36 pack. I have a better rod that I use when I'm fishing near my car. I use this particular pole for fishing in less accessible locations where I have to hike a bit or have to climb over rocks or through brush, and I carry all my fishing gear in my hiking pack. The response of this rod is fine, and after a few fishing trips it hasn't broken yet. I've treated it just like I would do with my other pole, and it has worked out okay, but I wouldn't want to try reeling in any record breaking bass with it. I would recommend this fishing rod to anyone looking for a budget rod to keep in their car "just in case" or for someone that wants to go fishing somewhere that a standard one or two piece rod would be too cumbersome to carry. A great hiking and backpacking rod!

So far is works great. Convenient to have for on the go fishing
So far so good This Eagle Claw rod is exactly what I was looking for. I would categorize it as being ultra light. Very flexible. Even a small perch can bend it. The tip can easily break. Be mindful when securing it inside your backpack. The handle is comfy in my hands. I've only caught small rock bass and perch with it so far. I will give a more accurate review once I catch a monster.
