Gossip Girl: The Complete Sixth and Final Season

When Bad Things Happen To Good Shows
It's like that old joke, two women are at dinner at a restaurant and one says to the other, "This food is terrible!" The other woman wrinkles her nose and replies, "I know! And the portions are so small!"Unfortunately, in the case of season six of Gossip Girl, the episodes are bad and few. Ten episodes could have been sufficient to wrap everything up quite nicely. Everything, for the most part, is wrapped up, but NOT nicely.***Here There Be Spoilers***I am a Chuck and Blair fan, have been all the way from the first season. Yes, they've done heinous things to each other. (that whole bit about Chuck setting up Blair to prostitute herself for his hotel in the third season was hard to stomach) Even at their worst, though, these two are compelling. They set the screen on fire when they're together. This season finds them involved in a pact to succeed in their respective business fields...Chuck by ousting his father from Bass Industries and Blair by making a name for herself as the new head of Waldorf Designs. Once they accomplish these goals, they will be together. Their chemistry appears briefly at the beginning of season but is almost non existent by the end, and even though they end up married (yay!) with a darling little mini-Chuck in the last episode, I couldn't help but feel dissatisfied with it.Part of it could be how anti climactic the resolution for the pact was, on both sides. Blair creates a line of couture uniforms for high school girls that becomes wildly popular after a series of missteps, caused mostly by her childish scheming. Chuck is at odds with his evil father, who threatens the people Chuck cares about and even makes an attempt on Chuck's life. All of this culminates in Chuck's father doing a nosedive off the top of a building after trying to take a swing at his son and Chuck stepping out of the way. There's a fracas with the police that ultimately ends up with Bart's death being declared an accident. After all that fuss, it seems a ridiculous death, akin to Bart choking to death on a Big Mac or being run over by a bus. Vendettas deserve truly dramatic endings, like Chuck finishing his father off mobster style or Bart getting stabbed by say, Lily. The identity of Gossip Girl is revealed and she's...Dan! That sound you hear is a thousand Gossip Girl fans scratching their heads in confusion. In what I consider an ironic twist, once the cat is out of the bag, some of the characters offer up who they thought GG was and every guess...Dorota, Eric, Jenny and Georgina...seems a way better choice than Dan. Dan talks about how he didn't just want to be on the outside looking in and how he thought he could "write" himself into the Upper East Side by becoming GG. And then there's some frustrating crap about how GG was always "moral"...Yeah, right. The most enjoyable aspect of the GG reveal is a delightful cameo by Kristen Bell, who has narrated Gossip Girl for all six seasons.Dan and Serina end up married by the end of the series too but their union feels as dissatisfying as Chuck and Blair's. After all, Dan has spent most of season six by being a perfect arse to deserving and undeserving alike. It's hard to sympathize with his plight, especially as he systematically sells out the people he spends most of the season freeloading off of. Personally, I would've liked to see Serina end up with Nate. (Poor Nate! Dreadfully underutilized and always given the worst storylines)For those that were waiting with baited breath for the return of Eric, Jenny and Vanessa, they all get less than 30 seconds of screen time between them. Lily ends up with William, which in a weird way kind of works because, let's face it, Lily's so dumb she deserves him, and Rufus ends up with Lisa Loeb.***Spoilers End***Gossip Girl used to be a good show that you watched for the drama and intrigue, and because it's so darn pretty to look at. Somewhere along the way, the drama became a bit stale and certain things really were noticeably bothersome. As another reviewer pointed out, how ridiculous is it that none of the main characters saw fit to graduate from college yet they all have high-income occupations? Preposterous! They could've had at least one of them graduate. Also, how many times can characters keep making the same mistakes? (I know, I know...in the millions but you have to make SOME effort to keep it fresh. Why make Serina look terrible by always having her choose the worst possible man at any given time to sleep with?)Why did I give it three stars? At the end of the day, there was still enough in the sixth season to hold my attention, even if I did roll my eyes more than a few times. And the show is still pretty to look at. And even if I quibble about the execution, they did wrap things up. Recommended for Gossip Girl fans who want things wrapped up.

Definitely not brand new but the discs themselves have no issues or noticeable wear
I saw a few reviews stating that their disc cases were clearly used and I ended up getting one similar. It was still wrapped in plastic but the cover had wear on the corners and it clearly wasn’t brand new. Luckily, I have had no problems with discs skipping so far.

Finally...a satisfying series finale
This show ended right before it jumped the shark, IMO. When all the characters were in high school, all the scheming and conniving seemed very slick and somehow mature. It fit in with the characters. It even worked when they were all in their first years of college, but then it just got old. I'm all for the willing suspension of disbelief, but I find it hard to believe that out of a group of 5 super privileged children, not a one of them finished college, but they all managed to get amazing jobs. Heck I found it a little hard to believe that any of them got into college, since they appeared to spend about 10 minutes a day in school. The show had lost its mojo and found it again a little with the Blair and the Prince storyline, but then lost it pretty quick. However, the series finale was worth it. And what a shocker the identity of gossip girl was.....I have to say it was something I never in a million years saw coming. That alone was worth the $1.99 to watch the series finale. Too many series finales leave everything open (Sopranos), or make it completely confusing (Lost) and that just feels wrong, the Gossip Girl series finale did a great job of wrapping it all up with a nice little bow and I loved it. And they did something else I love, which was to sort of do an epilouge type thing where you get to catch up with the characters five years late. I haven't seen that done often, but I do love it, especially in a show like this one.Goodbye Gossip Girl....you know I love you XOXO ;)

Product good, Season overpriced and a bit of a letdown
I had no problem with the product itself. It had the gag reel (my favorite) and the retrospective that was aired before the airing of the final episode. The actual season, being only 10 episodes, was priced as though it was a full season of 22 episodes. It was extremely overpriced. I urge others to wait a year until the price drops. I will bet it goes down to about $8-$10.The actual episodes..........eh. I found myself a bit disappointed with this season, I feel like they could have done so much more. And the last episode, I found so confusing. The whole scene with Dan and Serena are talking, since he didn't actually say that he was Gossip Girl, it made it so confusing. I didn't understand that the writers of the show were actually trying to say that Dan was GG until all of the characters were in the living room. I loved that Blair and Chuck got married and lived happily ever after, but I wish we would have gotten to see more of their happily ever after. To see Serena and Dan get married.......it just feels fake, I feel like she's gong to be divorced in a few years. I just found myself disappointed.

Passender Abschluss

Pagato a prezzo "intero", circa 32€, è risultato davvero sconveniente.Ovviamente è consigliato solo agli appassionati della serie.
