How To Play The Penny Whistle (Penny & Tin Whistle)

I didn't realize that it assumes your penny whistle is in the key of D and bought ones in C. That's my mistake I think so I didn't dock any stars. It's otherwise super easy to follow with lots of pictures of what notes look like as far as what holes are covered and it also shows you sheet music. Will definitely get a penny whistle in D to better use this.

I bought this book because I also bought a penny whistle recently, and I was hoping to pick up better sight reading with it. The book has a visual guide (a straight bar with the number of holes covered that you have to cover to play the note, and then it unfortunately transitions way too fast to basic notes. I feel like there's a step in between that would make that far easier.All in all, it was an okay book, but it's a very flimsy tiny paperback with no more than twenty pages. About two thirds of those pages were just sheet music, not instructions or tips. I was expecting more for my price.

The pictures are great in this book. If I could pick one thing to rave about, it would be the illustrations, both of the fingerings and the visual displays of musical timing.However, it's a rather confusing guide and if I didn't already know how to play the whistle and had only this book to go on, I would certainly be left in confusion. I would highly reccomend Bill Och's book put out by the Clarke company. It comes with a very clear book of instruction and a CD of all the music you will play (nearly a hundred songs).

The book is well put together and has great tips for learning the tin whistle. I am a beginner so I found the tips quite useful. good selection of songs. if you want basics, you won't be disappointed.

Good info

Excellent book, good use a little larger font as far as the writing goes, getting older, need everything super sized. Will definatly use this book a lot. Do wish that it would explain a little bit more about certain techniques, but other than that its an excellent book.

It’s fun and easy to learn

I am sure this is a great book. Unfortunately, I can't use it. I have a pennywhistle in the key of C, and this book is for key of D. It doesn't say that anywhere in the description or on the cover. I learned that when I opened the book and found it in teeny-tiny letters. So, buyer beware if you have a pennywhistle in another key!

Good easy to follow, small guide. Wouldn't pay over £5 as it's quite small but packed with useful information. So worth the £3 odd I spent for it.

Bought this to make up order to get free postage so was not too disappointed. This is more of a booklet and I would say it is suitable for someone who is a complete novice or for a child. It says you will have a "repertoire of songs" which include such songs as Baa Baa Black Sheep and God Save the Queen. This is a very basic book so don't expect too much.

As a Musician I like to teach myself additional Instruments to play for fun. The Tin Whistle was very modestly priced but represented excellent quality and very suitable for my needs. Frederick Howard

I have bought this item quite some time ago. The author explains music-related expressions in an easy to understand manner. The songs are those you heard before and this fact makes it easy to learn the instrument. Techniques are properly explained. This booklet makes learning fun, quick and altogether a very enjoyable experience.I would recommend to everyone as a first exercise book.

Very thin pamphlet, assumes you will be able to read sheet music after a few pages and practising the Baa Baa Black sheep. There's a lot more useful instruction and tunes free on the internet.
