Intense Black
Very intense black. Mostly neutral, very slightly blue leaning. The color stays for a good amount of time even if you are not using color-stay products and practices while washing your hair. If you are already familiar with Arctic Fox's other dyes, this one is a little bit different in that it doesn't really have the usual "grape candy" smell that the other dyes have. It smells a bit more like chemicals and it stains more intensely than other dyes I have used from the company, so be mindful of that while using it and clean up any spillage or smudging promptly.

BLACKEST BLACK, BEST DYE TO COVER RED. STAINS LIKE CRAZY.
I have no idea how or why this happened to my hair, but this might be the blackest darkest black I have ever tried! I started off with FIRE RED hair, I dyed a dark brown permanent box dye over it which left it to be a dark wine red as in picture 1. I dyed it several times and couldn’t get the red out! I finally decided to embrace the goth in me and just dye it black. As you can see my hair is very damaged from past procedures it has endured. So I needed a good, a green/blue black semi-permanent hair dye. And after going through hours and hours of reviews on Amazon, I found that this black dye had green and blue undertones. BEWARE it stains. My big head couldn’t wait 10 more days to return home to dye my hair, cause i was sick of the red! And that resulted in me trying to dye my hair at the house of a friends I was staying with at that time. Now, my friends bathroom is WHITE. Everything from the towels, to the tiles, the walls and the counter tops is WHITE. I thought i was about to drop $100K to fix the whole bathroom after my dye project. To get it out of the toilet seat, marble countertops, wood cupboards and floor tiles and bath-tub I followed these steps, first dry wipe with toilet paper, spray bleach, let it sit, dry wipe, rubbing alcohol + cetaphil face wash (i thought the mix of the acidic and basic elements would help?), let it sit and then wipe with baby wipe. And for some reason the rubbing alcohol really helped with getting the stains out! Pic 2, after dye in the sunshine. Pic 3 is after 3rd wash, in the sun, still no red. Pic 4 wash 4. Pic 5 wash 5. It didn’t fade! Idk why, because each time I wash it, the water still comes out DARK. I also stain my hand or forehead in my sleep from sweat. But it comes out. The bathroom is fine, though when my hair shed, it would leave a green/blue mark if it was wet so I had to be careful to wipe it asap. My hair is still BLACK BLACK, I am amazed. I left the dye in my hair for an hour, I always wash with semi-warm water. I’ve been using the sandwich method while washing, conditioner - shampoo - conditioner. Maybe that helped it not fade? And sulphate free shampoo too! I didn’t wash my hair for 2-3 days after I dyed it for the first time to ensure it stuck in my hair follicles. THIS IS THE BEST BLACK DYE, NO RED SHINE, PURE BLACK.

DO NOT RECCOMEND
I purchased Arctic Fox’s Transylvania (Black) and had a terrible experience. The dye bled excessively and stained my bathtub purple, blue, and green. When I tried removing the stains with bleach, it turned the tub yellow. I then had to use hydrogen peroxide to lighten the yellowing. If you do use this dye, make sure your hair is an even undertone all over. I went black because I thought it would cover my patchy bleach job (some areas were yellow, some were platinum). The black was actually gorgeous. But as the color faded, the yellow sections turned bright green while the platinum sections became a vivid purple. This dye might work for you if you’re specifically looking to rock bright fashion shades as the dye fades. I went in the pool, and washed my hair about 10 times with Head & Shoulders to fade it before going to a salon, but the purple & green would not come out. I then used a color remover, which lightened it slightly. However, after washing it again, the colors bizarrely became brighter instead of fading!! Another round of color remover brought them down again, but now I’m afraid to wash my hair in case it intensifies once more. Overall, this product caused more damage, hassle, and frustration than it was worth. I would strongly advise avoiding it.

Great product, mixed results for virgin hair
This product worked WELL for my dark brown hair. I’ve never dyed my hair in my life (not with bleach) and really wanted to turn my brown hair black. It does stain anything it comes in contact with, so make sure to cover any walls and floors, and get bleach for the tub you’re going to rinse your hair in. HOWEVER, it did dye my hair relatively effectively. My hair was jet black for about 2 weeks, and began washing out afterward. It was shiny and looked amazing, but it was a bit disappointing for how quickly it washed out. However, I’d tried three other hair dyes (which I will not name here, just know they didn’t work) and none of them did anything. This was the first dye to do ANYTHING to my hair, which I am very thankful for. It also didn’t damage my hair, and my hair felt silkier and looked shinier after dying it. It took the brassiness out of my hair which was very nice. I’d recommend it to anyone, but if you want it to be more permanent, either take a different color or get a lifter for your hair first.

Great color
This is my go-to for non-permanent black dye. The black turns out great. I have hair that pulls red, so this dye deposits some weird combination of green and purple that magically makes a more ashy black - exactly what I want. HOWEVER, the clean up is miserable. We have a shower that stains easily so it's constantly splattered with blue, purple, and green marks from me washing out this dye. It does bleed, but that's to be expected - and honestly isn't the worst at doing so. Is it long lasting? I mean, kind of. I'm very rough with washing my hair. I use hot water, wash most days, and sometimes even use clarifying shampoo. The dye fades pretty quickly for me because of that, but it always sticks around for weeks - even if it's not pure black anymore. As a bonus... It kind of smells like grapes!

Great color, awful smell 😭
Arctic Fox? More like Arctic Flop. I don’t know who lied and said this was a good hair dye, but I want names. I used Transylvania thinking I was about to be THAT girl. What I got instead was a rotting cow smell and hair that bled like a murder scene. It stains everything. your skin, your nails, your floor, your soul. everything except your actual hair. And yes, I’ve tried other colors. Same disaster. Pink? Blue? Red? Cute for the first 20 minutes. After that, it's just a slow descent into stained pillowcases and broken promises. It fades like it’s in witness protection. Two washes and the color ghosted me. All that mess and it’s not even permanent? This dye has commitment issues. Also… who tf approved that scent? Transylvania literally smells like fermented manure. I’m not even exaggerating. It was giving barnyard realness and not in a sexy “Wicked Witch” way. I had to deep clean my bathroom like it was a crime scene. And bleach? That’s the only thing that even tries to undo the destruction this crap leaves behind. Arctic Fox is for people who want cosplay color for one TikTok and never shampoo. Not for people who actually want long-lasting, vibrant, grown-ass hair dye. It’s overhyped garbage. I’ve switched to Clairol permanent dye and suddenly I have color that doesn’t stain my entire existence. My tub’s clean. My hair looks alive. I can sleep on white pillowcases without waking up in a horror movie. If you're looking for real, serious color that lasts? Stay far away from this joke of a brand. Unless you wanna spend the next three weeks scrubbing your ears and crying in the tub.

Works Amazing! Poseidon basically Sonic the Hedgehog but great mixed with Transylvania!
So my bleached hair came out super yellow. I used T10 Wella toner to take some of the yellow out, but it didn’t work super great and next time, I’d probably skip that part. Next I dyed my hair Periwinkle to counter the yellow (opposites on the color wheel) and that turned my hair mostly gray, as expected. Then I used straight Poseidon, which was way too blue lol and looked like a Halloween wig because the color was so uniform and right down to the roots! SO I mixed it with a dime-sized amount of Transylvania black (be careful, it’s strong) and as you can see, the dye was a much darker blue and came out much better. THEN I dyed my hair with color a 4th time, same darker blue, but just around the first half of my hair to give my roots a darker look. Now, if someone told me that I’d have to use color remover, bleach twice, then toner, anticolor, and three rounds of blue color, I might not have never embarked on this adventure, but I’m SO glad I did! Aftercare: wash hair once a week in cool/lukewarm water with color-safe products. I use Strawberry Leopard shampoo and conditioner, which smells just as good as this dye does. That’s it. No need to get fancy by adding some color to your conditioner, and for Pete’s sake, of COURSE the color will fade super fast if you wash your hair all the time! Leave it alone! When you go to touch up about once every month or two, you’ll need to wash and dry your hair right beforehand just the same as the initial dye (I thought I’d mention it because I thought I could touch up my roots without washing my hair first… yeah, right. Follow the directions). When I want to be done with my blue, I’ll use the anticolor orange to cancel out the blue, maybe more than once. I was thinking pink next, which has orange undertones anyway. I’m here to order for that, so I’m ready when the whim grabs me. :)

A Fun, Ethical, and Vibrant Hair Dye My Kids Love!
We recently tried Arctic Fox Vegan and Cruelty-Free Semi-Permanent Hair Dye, and I can’t say enough good things about it! My 7, 9, and 12-year-olds were thrilled with the results. The colors are incredibly vibrant and fun—perfect for kids who want to express themselves safely and creatively. The formula is gentle and conditioning, which was a huge plus for me as a parent. It’s made with 100% vegan ingredients, free from ammonia, peroxide, alcohol, and PPD, so I felt confident letting my kids use it. Their hair actually felt softer after coloring, which was a pleasant surprise. Application was easy thanks to the creamy texture, and the sweet scent made the whole process enjoyable—no harsh chemical smells. We used it on pre-lightened hair for the brightest results, and the color payoff was amazing. Even on darker strands, it gave a beautiful tint. The dye lasts several weeks with proper care, and it fades gracefully without staining pillows or clothes. Plus, Arctic Fox donates 15% of profits to animal welfare causes, which makes supporting this brand feel even better. For the quality, safety, and ethical values packed into each bottle, this dye is an excellent value. My kids are already asking to try new shades, and I’m happy to keep Arctic Fox as our go-to brand. Highly recommended for families looking for a fun, safe, and vibrant way to experiment with hair color!

Will stain everything BUT your hair
Worst product I’ve ever purchased for my hair and I’ve been a black hair girly for YEARS. I’ve also used arctic fox several times but this one was the worst. I got the Transylvania black and it colored everything except for my hair. Left it on for an hour, rinsed it and it all washed out. Stained my hands, stained my sink, and stained my neck. Complete waste of time and energy. No colour was left on my hair by the time I was done rinsing it.

Greenish?
I tried Purple AF as my first Arctic Fox product. I have naturally darkest-brown hair, and I cover greys with demi-permanent dye. I lightened a few streaks to be purple but was thrilled to find a purple hue through ALL my hair. So I decided to try Transylvania since demi-permenent dyes are getting rare. But what worried me is the distinctly green hue. There is definitely blue which I expected, but the green hue threw me off. I noticed it first when the dye was kind of dryish--near the parting of my hair and on my eyebrows, I saw a yellow-greenish sheen, as well as the inevitable skin-transfer being the colour of a teal marker. A sea-green. After washing the hair looks black enough but washed away extremely quickly. Meanwhile the green tint on my skin stayed for about 2 days after--the same as purple, but a far less pleasant hue. :/ I am hooked on the purple though. I might try mixing the purple in to counteract the green a bit (?) or trying Transylvania mixed with ritual.

Favourite hair dye
Really happy with this hair dye! The color turned out vibrant and even, and it was easy to apply. It didn’t have an overwhelming smell like some dyes do, and my hair still felt soft afterward. Fades into really cool colors too
