The theme of Vijnana Bhairava Tantra is dharana, or concentration, a subject most relevant today. This new translation and commentary of a classical tantric text sheds much light on the practice of dharana, which until now has been revealed only by peripheral explanations. The text comprises 112 different dharanas, or techniques of concentration, which can easily be incorporated into one’s daily life. Although dharana is a practice intended for an adept, whose mind is steady and controlled, the techniques contained within this book provide a way even for the aspirant with a distracted mind to gradually develop concentration and meditation. This work is the result of an in-depth study of dharana in relation to the tantric view of meditation, substantiated by the personal experience of the author. Included is a detailed introduction followed by the original Sanskrit slokas, with transliteration, translation and extensive commentary. Review: Beyond words. - Exploratory journey into the rich, beautiful & dense world of Tantra & Kashmiri Shaivism. There are lot of similarities it shares with Vedanta & Yoga. As the author mentions, "Tantra means to stretch the mind, and in doing so to remove and liberate it from its bondage. Different names have been given for this process during different periods in history; however, the outcome is the same. It is not as if tantra says anything different from vedanta or yoga; it simply uses different terms which point in the same." And goes on to say, "The mind is continually sending out waves in the form of thoughts. These thoughts have weight, quality, frequency and outward movement. They drag the mind to the outer experience. If these thought patterns are obstructed, which is possible with effort and practice, stillness occurs. Then the mind, having no alambana, or support, enters into a void. If this experience is sustained and deepened, the highest awareness is experienced, which is a state of fullness." I am not qualified to comment further, but this definitely is a hidden gem. Review: Must for all spritual seeker - Was looking for Vijnana Bhairav Tantra (VBT) book. Saw multiple books by different authors. This book stands out due to indepth analysis, lucid and easy to connect with. Introduction section itself is so profound, it makes a must for any Sadkak looking for meditation. I can't help but quote a section from it's introduction : "This is the uniqueness of tantra; it never seeks to reform. Instead it says there is a path for you, wheather you are a saint or sinner, religious or atheist, enlightenment or ignorant, sensual or abstemious, emotional or intellectual, attached or detached. Even if you are in the clutches of anger, jealousy, hatered, delusion, doubt or hypocrisy, do not wait for the day when you concur these qualities, but start where you are. Utilise these very same forces that cause agony to raise your awareness (VBT sl 101)." Just out of this world analysis.

Eternal Knowledge Centre
Excellent book in Tantra. You will come to explore new and core concept of Tantra at every page of the book. The writer has narrated as if the divine conciousness has written the same through her. It should get a 6* out of 5*.

Wonderful and Effective practices
This book is WOW It is about how Shiva guided Parvathi devi to do the deeksha I started Shiva deeksha few days back and started following this book I finished first three practices in this book , that Lord Shiva mentioned to Parvathi And I can see the results with immediate effect I'm also following and practicing ajna chakra course from Kundalini tantra And also began practicing from VBT and I'm a regular practitioner, When I began following VBT I can feel the difference much faster and stronger Now I'm able to go to deeper meditation stages with just first three practices from the book VBT I really love it Om Namah Shivaya !

Just wow, blown away
Its deep philosophical stuff with Sanskrit mantras, and its pronunciation, translation & explanation. I thought its gonna be just Tantric methods, but its way more than that. Vijnana Bhairava tantra seems to be another text like Bhagavat Gita that every Hindu should read, but for some reason not that popular. I was scared of the translation as our pandits have this habit of unnecessarily using archaic & hard English to show their pedantry, This was nothing like that. Its easy readable like any other spiritual best sellers. And its not at all dry also.

A must for all Spiritual Aspirants.
This book was recommended by a friend and described as for the advanced aspirant on the path. Deciding I would jump in at the deep end I was surprised at just how much I could identify with its teachings. It ceratinly takes one deeper into the recesses of the mind far more deeply than any other book I have studied. It HAS to be stuidied, not read; and the practices refered to in the book are for just about every different negative and gross energy which has to be cleared from the mundane body in order to progress along the Spiritual Path. For me it is amazing.

My opinion i,
I love this book. It doesn’t get the accolades it deserves. I just wrote a poor review for the “Radiance Sutras” on the same subject matter. And if you are considering this book, you may come across the “Radiance Sutras” warm and fuzzy, spoof interpretation on the same book - VBT. I cannot at all recommend that book. Swami Saraswati, is well versed on tantric texts and a life practioner. The book breaks down the original sanskrit text (sutras aka aphorisms -in concise format and written in sanskrit which is a multi-layered language) into English, so you too, can tie out the translation. Because of the complexity of the language, there may be or is multiple perspectives on the translation. ( I had to grow into this book; being very interested but unfamiliar with the topic). That said - the authors’s 93 page introduction was chocked full of very helpful information. I like her writing style. She is able to present difficult material into bite size , digestable pieces, that are nutritionally dense. I also have the 1,000+ page book “The Secret” by the highly controversial author - Osho. He too, does not provide a direct translation, but waxes prolifically on the subject matter , but i wouldn’t even call his book a translation, rather a rich and vast discourse on the subject He and/or his behavior may be disagreeable, but there is no denying he was well educated and informed on the topic. That said, you may do well to read his highly recommended book, but I would not advise tackling that book without the necessary foundation in the fundamental core knowledge of the VBT, such as Ms Saraswati provides. I guarantee if you can’t understand this book; you won’ the other.
