AvoDerm Natural Tuna & Crab Entrée in Gravy - Grain Free Wet Canned Cat Food 5 oz

I adopted two very undernurished kittens from the Humane Society, whose on-staff vet said that AvoDerm dry and canned food is the best on the market for cats. When I took the kittens for their vet checkup 6 months later, my own vet also agreed that this is the best food available and was so pleased with the health of the kittens. My older cats have also seen a huge improvement in their coats -- much more silky and shiny, shedding is reduced and their weight is easily maintained on this food. I recommend trying this food if you have finicky cats or they have health problems. My cats absolutely LOVE all the Avoderm Select Cuts (chunky-style) flavors AND all the flavors of this pate-style food. The seafood flavors seem to be the most popular among the cats, but many vets recommend avoiding too much seafood for male cats due to the urine crystals it can cause. I started feeding the beef and chicken exclusively and they eat every last drop. Bottom line: It costs more than your average food, but it's worth every penny (buying it by the case can give you a pretty good discount from most vendors). If you consider that it keeps them healthier, which can save you from expensive vet bills in the long run, then it's worth it. Plus, think of the time you'll save not having to clean up after their shedding! Also, I've noticed that this brand does not result in the runny, smelly poo that some other, cheaper brands do. Try this food out on your cats -- you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Trying to find the right food that my 5 (formerly feral) indoor cats like, is like pulling teeth. If I could recoup the thousands of dollars (over the years) that we've spent on different cat foods - with hopes that they would finally like something - I'd be able to purchase a new car. With each new food purchase, we cross our fingers to determine what they'll love (or ignore). In the case of this AvoDerm Natural Grain Free Web Cat Food (the Tuna & Crab formula), all 5 loved it and polished off their dishes. Of course when this occurs, you begin to wonder how long it will be before they tire of this new flavor also. But in the meantime, they are loving this food. And of course, the true test comes if they'll eat something more than once. We've given it to them now 3 days in a row and they polished it all off - so YES!!!!!! Highly recommended (for now)...

This formula was unavailable for a long time. Now that it is back, it looks and smells not quite as good and my finicky kitties are not liking it as much as they used to. Sigh. So far, they are still eating some of it, but I delayed my next order as they are definitely no longer licking the bowls clean on this one. Still, it is the best of the salmon made exclusively for kitties and tastes pretty close to human grade canned salmon, not that human grade canned salmon is particularly good - it isn’t. And yes, I taste test. Wish I could get my little purrs to eat more poultry based meals.

I have purchased AvoDerm before, but it has been a while since I've tried it, and this is probably the first time my youngest cat has tried it. I free-feed my cats (Blue Buffalo) kibble, but I also give them each a small can of canned food each morning or split a larger one. If they eat that, I'll give them another one later in the afternoon. Wet food is important for cats because they prefer to get their liquid requirements from their food rather than drinking water. Older cats, in particular, often don't drink enough water to support their aging kidneys. For that reason, I like to encourage them to eat canned food, and overeating has never been a problem for them. They are, however, fairly picky about their canned foods, and they don't like eating the same thing too often. For that reason, I rotate a bunch of different canned foods. My requirements are that meat, poultry, or fish be the first ingredient and that there be no corn, soy, wheat, gluten, or unnamed byproducts. My cats might be willing to eat junk, but it's my responsibility to read the ingredient list. This has worked well for me, as my last four cats lived into their mid-20s or longer, one of them nearly making it to 29 years of age. About 80% of what is in a can of cat food is found in the first four ingredients. The first six ingredients in the AvoDerm Chicken Entree with Vegetables in Gravy are Tuna (Source of Omega 3), Fish Broth, Chicken, Sunflower Oil, Carrots, and Peas. These ingredients fit the bill and there's nothing scary in the rest of the list. For some reason, I haven't thought of AvoDerm in a couple of years. Either Amazon wasn't carrying it, or I didn't come across it. My last four cats all liked AvoDerm, so I ordered a case of it. Of my two cats, the older one loved it, while the younger one initially walked away in protest but later snuck back and ate it, or the older one might have gone from her bowl to his. I wasn't watching. Cats are weird.

I'm not sure that the avocado really provides any benefit, but I do know this is our two black 9-month old kittens'/ cats' absolute favorite food! This is the only food we've found with better ingredients (chicken is the first ingredient, plus no corn/ soy/ wheat gluten/ etc.) that both cats will eat everyday; we feed it to them once every morning and give them other wet food and some dry food later in the day. Every other brand of cat food or even other varieties of Avoderm they refuse to eat two days in a row. They also started refusing to eat pate- another plus for this chunky formula. I like that this is grain free and certified to meet the nutritional needs of both adult cats and kittens-- this makes me feel more confident that I can feed it them now while meeting their nutritional needs, but also it'll hopefully transition well as they become adult cats. I hope Amazon continues to have Prime suppliers that provide this at such a great price!
