This is an excellent little book. It's primary focus is on the painting of Margaret Kemble Gage by John Singleton Copley. Copley was very proud of the painting, and felt it was the best portrait of a woman he had ever done. Copley was America's first great artist, and he was self-taught. There was no one here of his caliber to teach him. He sent this painting to London to be exhibited there (the ultimate test for a work of art at the time). It passed the test with flying colors - people loved it.
