The X-Files Vol #1 SET: Original Soundtrack Recordings

I’ve been a fan of Chris Carter's works for decades. I've also been a fan of Mark Snow's work for just as long if not longer. For me, each track is a memory, taking me back to the first time I saw an episode. I remember how my life was so radically different in the 1990s, how my own writing lacked substance and my own music lacked depth. Since then I believe I've grown and it is thanks in part to Chris Carter's vision and Mark's Snow's inspiration.Oh yeah, product review. These items were shipped fast and sold at a reasonable price, which are two important considerations when buying online. Packaging however ... let's just say that the item could have been dropped from a five story building and survived intact. The packaging was way more than adequate. Five stars for this alone.I've seen other reviewers conflicted on the tracks chosen for this CD set questioning why some are added while still others are absent. Those opinions are valid for more reasons than simply; everyone is entitled to their opinion. A few epic pieces are missing, but I'd rather focus on what was included. For me, this music is a time machine. It reminds me of the adventure and the drama and the perspectives of a strong influence in my life.I watched an episode in an airport when the weather was so bad my flight was delayed. Almost thirty people gathered around a TV that couldn’t have been more then fifteen inches. Not every passenger was a fan, and not every passenger joined us, but the ones who complained that they were going to miss their favorite show were provided a TV by the airport staff and we gathered with the shortest and oldest in front and the tallest and youngest in back and were completely silent save gasps and laughs and explosive conversations during commercials.I remember watching pivotal episodes projected onto the outside of a house, where neighbors and strangers came together to share the moment drawn and bonded by a remarkable story and a peerless soundtrack.See? Told you I’m a fanboy.

During its initial nine-season run from 1993 to 2002, "The X-Files" not only won numerous awards—it also had some of the best soundtrack music of its era. This four-CD set contains the iconic theme to the show and five hours of music from the series. The liner notes are superb, noting Mark Snow's contributions and how the music was written for the show and how it augmented it. The notes also recall the episodes and scenes that each selection of music on the set backed. This is some of the best and most imaginative music for any science fiction production ever, and fans of the show would greatly enjoy it.

Amazing music, a couple very short cues, some long cues with the rest of the cues being regular average length. Dark, moody, creepy, exciting and beautiful. Totally evocative, I would be listening to a cue and think OMG what must be going on in this scene! A must have for X-Files fans, and one of the Holy Grails of soundtracks.
