Pure wax
When it comes to wax toilet gaskets, you can get the old fashioned solid wax ring like this one, or you can get the wax ring ring formed around a funnel shaped guide which may or may not include a sponge ring, which allows the manufacturer to use less wax and still provide the thickness required to fill the gap between the toilet and the floor flange. Where I have run into trouble in the past is when there is not enough gap, and the plastic part just becomes an obstacle to seating the toilet low enough to reach the floor. This funnel shaped "guide" is designed to center the toilet over the down pipe and flange. In theory, a good idea. But sometimes, depending on the height of the flange, It just does not work out. Enter the "old school" solid wax gasket to save the day. You have to center the toilet when setting it over the flange, but it will just keep squishing flatter until the toilet reaches the floor. If it still hits the flange, your plumber cut the down pipe too long. They do that sometimes if they think you are going to put down ceramic tile on the floor before installing the toilet. A high mounting flange works out just right in that case. But if you put down vinyl instead and the flange is substantially above the floor surface, you may actually need to cut a "shim" board to fit around the flange and under the toilet. That's going to be some fancy cutting. Some skillful caulking can cover the edge of the board. But no matter what your situation, the solid wax gasket is the most likely best application to work without aborting your installation. Good luck.

didn't work for me, but might for you
my toilet was a unique size, so this wasn't the solution. Had to get a custom one from the manufacturer. But this is well-made and was delivered fast. Would probably work in 99% of applications.

Normal required "home repair part" to keep on-hand IMO
I believe every homeowner (and renter who fixes their own issues like changing light-bulbs, lubricating door hinges and locks, that sort of thing) should have on-hand one regular-height toilet wax gasket and one extra-height/thick toilet wax gasket, just in case, because sooner or later the toilet starts leaking around the bottom, and that problem won't go away until it's fixed for real. (Also one needs some Teflon tape, now that I think of it.) As long as your toilet water shutoff valve is in working shape and the floor mount bolts are OK, it may not be the most pleasant job but it's relatively quick to shut off, drain, dry, disassemble, and remove an entire toilet from the floor, clean off the old wax ring and remnants from the floor and the toilet bottom, throw in a new ring like this, and then replace-and-reassembly and test the toilet. An hour later max plus a shower to make you forget what you just went through, and that's a problem solved that wasn't ever going to go away on its own.

Did the Job.
Not much to say. Clean the area: place the ring; rock the toilet in place; alternately tighten the bolts, real snug. That's it!

Best seal
This is the most amazing stuff, never hardens or dissolves and can be molded into any shape you require, fantastic value.
