Worked well for college course
I bought this book as a requirement for a college course. It was very informative and also an interesting read. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about music styles and instruments from different cultures.

Very Informative and Entertaining Book
Professor Alves has done a magnificent job in this book. I'm not Japanese but I'm composing a Japanese piece. The chapter on Japanese music was most helpful for me!

I ordered this book on Kindle, which I definitely recommend ordering it that way because it makes it so much easier to take to class. Also, the search button helps me find information quickly. It's a good book with lots of good information. The only thing I wish was different was that it had a more complete glossary. Most of my assignments for my World Music class involve writing definitions of terms, instruments, etc., and many of the terms my professor wants us to learn are not listed in the glossary as official vocabulary terms. Luckily, it's still not too difficult to find the information within the text.

Five Stars
It has met the requirements need for my summer course. Can't ask for more than that.
