A compelling biography of SoundCloud sensation and rising star XXXTENTACION -- from his candid songwriting and connection with fans to his tragic death. At the age of twenty, rapper Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy-aka XXXTENTACION-was gunned down during an attempted robbery on the streets of Deerfield Beach, Florida, mere months after signing a $10 million record deal with Empire Music. A rising star in the world of SoundCloud rap, XXXTENTACION achieved stellar levels of success without the benefit of a major label or radio airtime, and flourished via his passionate and unfettered connection to his fans. In Look at Me! , journalist Jonathan Reiss charts the tumultuous life and unguarded songwriting of the SoundCloud sensation. Unlike most rap on the platform, XXXTENTACION's music didn't dwell on money, partying, and getting high. He wrote about depression, suicide, and other mental health issues, topics that led to an outpouring of posthumous appreciation from his devoted fanbase. It was XXXTENTACION's vulnerability that helped him stand apart from artists obsessed with being successful and "cool." Yet these insecurities also stemmed from-and contributed to-his fair share of troubles, including repeated run-ins with the law during his teen years, a disturbing proclivity toward violence, and a prison sentence that overlapped with the release of his first single. Through the memories of the people who knew him best, Look at Me! maps out the true story of an unlikely cultural icon and elucidates what it was about him that touched the post-millennial generation so deeply. With being a big fan of the artist, I recommend anyone who is interested about his story and the origins of some of his tracks. Great book and still yet to finish it.

If you're looking for closure/understanding/entertainment/motivation this is it
Where do I begin... first off I read this book in its entirety in one day. Being a big X supporter (his definition of fan was something I was not during his life) I was extremely fascinated with his life and as a fellow artist I was dying to know more answers about his start up, how he willed and created such an immense fanbase. I also wanted to know who X really was through all of the media and bull that was out there I wanted an unbiased view on it ALL. And that was what I got. I knew X wasn't perfect and this book really gets into the DETAILS of all his angles, ugly and beautiful. His life was very much like a movie but his attitude and reaction to things were what separated him (I believe) from all his peers in similar distraught upbringings. X could've perished into the night on multiple occasions, just to be remembered as another black man a victim of the hood and we are so blessed he lived to being a pioneer of rap bringing a fresh (and very large) wave. "Look At Me" hits every point without missing a beat and will answer every questions you had on Jahseh Onfroy and XXXTENTACION. This book will give still saddened fans definite closure. This book will give his intense haters a sense of understanding. This will entertain the heck out of you as well, I mean this guy was BANANAS! But most importantly it will motivate you to carry on his soul, carry him with you in accomplishing your dreams because that is something he loved seeing the most. Thank you Jonathan Reiss for writing such a wonderful book I feel like now... I truly understand.
