One of director Billy Wilder 's biggest box office hits following his landmark comedies Some Like It Hot and The Apartment , the spectacular Irma La Douce -- adapted from the 1956 musical for the French theatre -- reunites Wilder with his Apartment stars Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine , providing the latter with one of her most fondly remembered (and Oscar®-nominated) early roles. MacLaine is Irma, a popular Parisian prostitute whose new pimp is an unlikely procurer: Nestor (Lemmon) is a former honest cop who was just fired and framed by his boss after Nestor inadvertently had him arrested in a raid. However, Nestor's love for Irma is making his newfound vocation impossible, so he poses as a phoney British lord who insists on being Irma's one and only "client." But when "Lord X" appears to have become the victim of foul play...further comedic complications ensue! Irma La Douce offers many of the same sardonic observations on human nature as Wilder's earlier comedies -- in addition to the same riotous humour and touching romance -- but on an even broader, more colourful canvas. Collaborating again with his regular screenwriter I.A.L. Diamond , Wilder delivers one of his most purely entertaining crowd-pleasers of the 1960s. Very good Bluray, Irma la Douce, a bit grainy, but some people may actually appreciate that.
The movie was a bit too grainy to my liking. I processed it through Topaz AI Video Enhancement and it is absolutely perfect now.

Classic comedy
Excellent performances from Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. Good story and picture and sound on this Blu-ray are excellent. One minor criticism is the fight scene in the bar tries too hard and goes on too long.

PLEASE NOTE
this i found when i watched it many years ago was a good film. but if you are going to buy the dvd of this film please take note that there seems to be about 3 different versions . what i mean is the original running length of this film is 147 minutes long. but some dvds are only 137 or 143 minutes long. so if you are looking for the most complete version please check the information on the run time before buying.

Region B Bluray disc
I enjoyed seeing "Irma la Douce" as it is hard to get as a dvd. I haven't seen it before and the story had a lot of twists that kept me interested. I wish there were more Region B Bluray discs available of "hard to get" movies.

Buena compra y adquisición a mi colección de películas
Me encanta esta película. Me agrada ver a Shirley Maclaine y a Jack Lemmon juntos, hacían una buena dupla. La película se ve bien, llegó rápidamente y sin defectos, lo malo, quizá para algunos, es que el audio solo está en inglés, al igual que los subtitulos... Por lo demás estoy satisfecha con la compra

Great Condition
This is an oldie but goodie. Great fun to watch with Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. For a used copy in great condition and affordable for me to purchase. It's getting harder to find some of these classics. Very pleased with my purchase. Thank you for providing me with funny movie night.

A delightful comedy I'm so thrilled to find again!
I watched this on tv with my mother when I was in my teens and I adored Shirley's character and well as the peeks I got at the amazingly gorgeous Tura Satana! Seeing her in "Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill" I fell in girl crush at first sight. The clothes are super fab, and Irma's signature green and black outfits are just amazing! The storyline is very dated but was on point and hilarious for the time. A must see for Shirley Maclaine fans, Tura Satana fans, and fans of sexy 60's comedies. I'm SO thrilled to finally have this in my collection again!
