Looks cool, super compact, loud enough!
People complain this bell isn't loud enough. Well, I can't speak for the "original" but definitely the Luxe model with the metal striker makes a very solid, resonant ding. And the unique compact design is just great for the limited space on my drop bars. It does only mount in one orientation (I would prefer it flipped upside down because of where the cables are routed on my handlebars) but I was able to get it to work just fine. For sure you need to set it up so nothing's rubbing and deadening the sound but this should be possible on pretty much any bike, just order the right size. One minor (and surprising) issue -- and if you go to the Knog website and watch their video about the time they invested in designing the bell, about testing all different pitches and tones until they found the absolute perfect one, you'll laugh -- but these geniuses have either intentionally replicated the iPhone notification "ding" tone, or else it subconsciously seeped into their brains and they mimicked it by accident. Well, the only problem with that is, people don't necessarily realize you're a bike, and not a phone! So, it kind of necessitates a double-ding if you don't want to sound like a jogger who just got a text.

It works great IF you install it correctly!!
I was reluctant to buy this given how many people complained about the dead 'clink' sound. And when I first installed it, I thought the same thing - this bells sucks! HOWEVER, I was confused because it sounded GREAT when it WASN'T installed on the handlebars. So what was the deal?? After looking closer at the installation, I realized the gear and brake cables were slightly touching the bell, keeping it from resonating. I then realized that the rubber liner on the inside of the bell (the part that wraps around your bar) had a couple of 'sawtooth' notches in it. So when I ran my cables through those notches INSIDE the bell's casing, it worked great! DIIIIING!!! So, yeah...now I have a sleek, non-bell looking bell, and no longer have to yell "on your left", only to see people turn to the their left anyway. Hopefully, this works better!

Beautiful Bell. Compact, stylish. Minor acceptable flaws. Great option for 31.8mm OS
One of the few bicycle bells that fit OS 31.8mm bars with bar tape and cables (see picture). I previously bought a Crane bell, which was also beautiful, but it broke after 2 weeks (the spring). This one, equally nice and more expensive. Unlike the Crane bell that's made in Osaka, Japan, this one is made in China for those who care about manufacturing origins. The bell is well made to high quality standards. Installation is easy, comes with an Allen wrench if you don't have a set, and an additional rubber strip if needed for slippage or smaller diameters. The mechanism is super easy to use and the ding from this brass version is long. Not the loudest bell, but loud enough and long enough for you to catch people's attention in the urban jungle. The brass does dent under the impact site, so over time it will wear, how bad, we'll see. The bell once tightened does not rotate or slip or anything. I can combo multi-ding at-will at-everything and anything since the return spring is immediate after making contact. I would definitely buy again despite the few criticisms I have, but they're all acceptable to me.

Luxe review - last review you need to review before buying
This is a great product. Super neat design and works perfectly. Very well made. I have the Spurcycle on my road bike, but wanted to try this one on my Hybrid bike, despite all the bad reviews. I'm glad I did. Not only is the design top notch, but it functions perfectly. I've used it for about a month now. The striker is solid and produces a nice long, sustained ring, as you can tell from my video. My only regret is that I bought the large (because it was on sale) and had to place it close to my stem. It would be more convenient for me to have the small and placed near my grips, so I wouldn't have to move my hand to ring it - but usually not a big deal. Well packaged and easy to install (except I dropped the screw first attempt, and had a hard time finding it - after that, no sweat). The trick is to find the perfect spot on the handlebars. Mine were not perfectly round near the stem and I had to adjust the orientation of the bell until it would ring freely without the dreaded "clunk" sound some have reported. Be careful not to have any cables touching it or it will not work properly. I have used it literally hundreds of times in my nightly bike rides and it gives walkers good warning of my presence. No, it will not work in a busy city environment with traffic, but perfect for trail or neighborhood usage. I suspect most of the poor reviews are for the classic version with a reported vulnerable stricker. This Luxe version has solved that problem and is meeting all my expectations. Buy with confidence. I have it on a Trek FX3disc hybrid bike, but would have no problem if it were on my Trek Madone 3.1, as it is a nicely designed and engineered, state-of-the art piece of equipment.

Don’t believe the hype
I rarely give negative reviews. Most of the time I’m mostly satisfied. However, this is a product that doesn’t live up to the price and many recommendations online. First, and most importantly, it’s not louder than an average bell. And because of the way the striker is designed, you get a single “ping,” not a “cha-ching” from a traditional bell. Secondly, and this is a pet peeve of mine. Any adjustable strap that comes with a rubber strip to fill the gap is announcing to the world. “We have no idea (or ran out of money) on how to make a strap that fits securely on a tube.” So, in installing this elegant looking bell, which should have been easy, is not. You have to struggle with tightening it on the strip and then rotating it upright, which then crumples the strip, ruining the fit…and then you have to do it again, over and over. Save yourself some time and $$$. Buy something else.

Very pleased. Louder than others are suggesting. Make sure nothing touches to bell plate (cables etc). It needs to be free to resonate or you get a clunk rather than ring. Large size fitting needed for road bars.

I wanted a bell that would blend into my handlebars without being an obvious dome plonked on the top. This is very subtle, and stylish. Mine is black and it blends with then handle bars. The ring tone is nice, not at all piercing. It is not the loudest sound, but car drivers aren't going to hear you anyway. Pedestrians and other cyclists can hear it well.

A great bell which is unobtrusive and gives a loud, clear sound. I recommend it.
