In Search Of Lost Time Boxed Set (4 Volumes): Marcel Proust (Everyman's Library CLASSICS)

Everyman edition is beautifully presented. Still to read the books!

I managed to purchase the Everyman's Library Classics Edition set of Proust's classic, for a little over twenty pounds, on offer. For that price: it was a bargain. The Everyman's Library Classics Edition books are, the best value books you can buy, in my opinion. They are quality bound hardbacks, with: acid-free paper, dust jacket and ribbon page marker.

I have not started reading yet but first impressions of the books were good, apart from the writing is not very defined... as in it lacks a bit of contrast or definition or ink intensity. Makes it difficult to read in not so good lighting. As for the content I am sure it is worth the money.

As with all everyman library books- quality is superb

Do not buy this book. It's a crappy printing by Amazon of the first 600 pages of Proust's 7-volume work, that seems to be a random chunk, arbitrarily printed in an atrocious font. I had to buy this book twice, as well - due to being sent an empty envelope the first time. I feel utterly angry and cheated.

The actual books themselves are fine, the box and case they came in were however damaged which isn't great but I'm fairly certain that's not an issue with the manufacturer but the delivery service.

The text is the standard Scott Moncrieff with a copyright by Yixin Wen. There is a title page, a blank page, a table of contents and then the text starting overleaf. The text finishes on page 656. There are two blank pages and a page stating that it was printed by Amazon in Great Britain. The back cover exterior has 3 paragraphs describing the novel. As in the headline, the typeface (which is not stated or credited) is too light. It is very tiring to read even a page and for a novel of this length a real challenge to complete. In Search of a Better Typeface.....

This is a typewritten manuscript edition, containing typing errors of the famous novel, saved only by its contents. No mention of the publisher.

Amazon wouldn’t let me post my original bad review resulting in one star and I suppose buyers won’t ever know why because of this. But unimpressed and can’t say why.

Not a criticism of the content but of the faint print and typeface . I think Amazon prints when a customer orders a copy.

Tout est parfait dès l’ouverture, rien à redire. 🌸 Immersion ↪ L’atmosphère londonienne est merveilleusement bien rendue, entre la brume des rues et les salons feutrés. Les descriptions sont soignées, sans excès. L’auteur semble avoir pris soin de ses recherches pour offrir un décor crédible et vivant. Les dialogues sont empreints de cette retenue typique de l’époque, et chaque émotion semble plus intense lorsqu’elle éclate enfin. 🌸 Les personnages ↪ Les protagonistes sont profonds et nuancés, loin des archétypes. La protagoniste principale est forte sans être insupportablement héroïque, et ses contradictions la rendent d’autant plus touchante. Les personnages secondaires ne sont pas en reste et possèdent chacun leur propre histoire et motivations. Il est rare de croiser une telle richesse psychologique dans un roman historique. 🌸 Le rythme ↪ L’intrigue se déploie à un rythme agréable. Aucun temps mort, mais sans précipitation. Les rebondissements arrivent au bon moment et les passages plus calmes permettent de bien saisir les enjeux. Il m’est arrivé de peiner à lâcher ma liseuse, l’envie de connaître la suite était plus forte que tout. 🌸 La langue ↪ L’anglais n’est pas parfait pour moi, mais je me suis sentie à l’aise avec ce texte. Le vocabulaire est riche mais compréhensible, les phrases sont bien construites et jamais alambiquées. Ce roman est un excellent compromis entre authenticité historique et accessibilité pour les lecteurs non natifs. Parfait pour se replonger dans la langue sans trop de difficulté. 🌸 L’atmosphère générale ↪ L’auteur réussit à capturer cette sensation d’être dans un autre temps, à sentir la poussière des livres et l’odeur du thé refroidissant. Les questions de classe sociale sont traitées subtilement, sans être moralisatrices. C’est une réflexion profonde sur la condition humaine, la liberté et les choix que l’on fait quand on est limité par son époque. 🌸 Format numérique ↪ La lecture sur Kindle est très confortable. J’ai pu ajuster la taille des caractères et naviguer aisément entre les notes de bas de page. Quelques coquilles par-ci par-là, mais rien qui n’entache la qualité du texte global. 🌸 Conclusion ↪ Ce livre m’a réellement rappelé pourquoi j’aime tant la fiction historique. Il combine une intrigue solide avec une réflexion psychologique fine, le tout dans une atmosphère riche et authentique. Quelques petites imperfections techniques n’entament en rien mon enthousiasme. Si vous aimez les romans qui mêlent histoire et psychologie, foncez. ⏩

This book is an interesting read a little heavy sometimes confusing but a good book to spend time with.

Beautiful books, but the covers (and the box around it) are damaged. I wish there would be more attention to wrapping the books properly, so they wouldn't arrive in this state.
