Best Manual Pencil Sharpener for Colored Pencils - Love It!!!
I have tried at least 7 or 8 manual pencil sharpeners that are recommended for colored pencils, including one or two sold by the artist-grade pencil manufacturers themselves! They were all terrible at creating a nice sharp point. I have been very frustrated with pencils coming out of the sharpener as sharp as my elbow. At last! A sharpener that actually works to create a very sharp point. And it being a manual sharpener, it's affordable too! Before I bought this sharpener, I looked at the photos of pencils that looked as sharp as needles and I thought it must be an exaggerated image. It is not an exaggeration. They come out long and sharp just like the picture shows (if that's what you want). They can come out slightly less sharp by adjusting the sharpness setting, which is amazing too, although I don't think there is as much difference between the sharpest and the dullest settings as SIX different settings would imply. My coloring is looking better than it has ever looked. It's so much easier to be precise. Based on the quality of another AFMAT product I have purchased, I am thinking this is a brand you can trust. Just be careful not to break off your long pointy pencils and waste the colored cores.

10/10
Best manual pencil sharpener. I hated carving out my lead but the sharpness and length on this is unbeatable and I don't risk breaking my lead. I also love the sandpaper inside the shavings bin. If I had to knitpick a gripe it is hard to hold and sharpened but this is probably just user error and a really easy fix would be fixing it to a single spot with some 3m tape so either way I'm not stressed about it. Picture description: The first picture depicts two pencils. The one on the left is a hi-uni 4b sharpened with the afmat long point pencil sharpener on the thinnest setting. The lead appears longer, thin, to a fine point. The pencil to the right is a derwent 4b sharpened with a generic sharpener. The exposed lead is significantly shorter than the hi-uni pencil and while is sharp is still thicker than the hi-uni pencil. The second picture decipts the same two pencils. The left is the hi-uni unchanged. The dewart here has been sharpened with the thickest setting on the afmat sharpener. The tip on this setting is blunted and flat rectangle instead of a round point.

WOW ACTUALLY AS GOOD AS ADVERTIZED!
Wow truly shocked! I had to make a video and take some photos of the results which I've NEVER taken the time or energy to record a video for an Amazon purchase before. But this...this is so awesome! I didnt want others to doubt it's efficacy, and not buy it like I ALMOST did. Thinking "no way the only way you can get even close to that is with a ravor blade or other sharp blade thing to shave the pencil the lonnnnng ol' fashioned way". Which I've always despised doing, but really do consider the results a must for me when drawing. So shave away I went... Which is why I figured the best way would be to document the results of this "new school" way. So record and snap I did! This thing, Reaalllyyy does, make just as long and tapered points as shown! Just look at my beautiful Uni Hi pencil treated to a lovely cutting with this amazing pencil sharpener! Totally awesome! Even the blunt setting works just as advertised!

excellent for oil-based colored pencils
I find this sharpener produces a very nice, long tapered point that works very well for detailed colored-pencil work. An adjustable dial allows the user to control how sharp/blunt the final point is. I always use the sharpest setting, which works for most projects. The difference between various settings is not that dramatic. There are times where I need a point a bit sharper than the finest setting, but it is pretty quick and easy to manually sharpen the finest point to get it super sharp - it does not take much sanding or scribbling on the edge of the point to get to a very sharp point! For me, it works great for FC Polychromos, Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor, Koh-I-Noor Progresso Woodless and even thick, soft Derwent Drawing pencils. I couldn't be happier. I've had successes and failures with Prismacolor. A typical failure would be a small break at the tip of the pencil (which isn't that big of a deal to me). But with one Prismacolor pencil, the sharpener never "stopped". At some point I realized that it had been sharpening for too long, and when I pulled the pencil out, about 1 inch had been removed, and the lead was broken at the base. But I've also had successes without a problem. Please keep in mind that the manufacturer says to *not* sharpen wax-based pencils…so issues with Prismacolor, or Derwent, are not a reflection of the quality of the sharpener - it works perfectly as advertised. I've never had breakage with oil-based pencils. I think this sharper does it's job well, and is an amazing value. It works much better than the long-point hand sharpeners I've tried. I'd highly recommend trying it out.

Great point
Works like a dream, the long point is spot on and consistent. The only concern is the amount of plastic parts that may break over time. So far so good.

Item works as described.

Excellent Manual Sharpener
Sharpens well. Longer leads have a positive effect on my drawing. Makes my drawing more fun and the fine points allow for very thin lines.

Good, But There Are Better Sharpeners - Does Not Work Well With All Brands
I usually use a Derwent Super Point manual sharpener for my colored pencils, but needed a secondary so I chose this one and wish I had not. While it's a good sharpener; I simply cannot get a sharp point. I can get a long point, but that's not the same as a sharp point. It does come with a sandpaper insert (inside the shavings reservior) so it's messy, but you can get a sharper point. However, if I just use a Derwent, I don't need to take that extra step to get a sharp point. I tried Prismacolor, FC Polychromos, Holbein and Caran D'Ache. It was adequate for Primsacolor and Polychromos, but Holbein and Caran D'Ache are just a tad bit too large. I also tried FC Watercolor, but they did not work. To be fair, they don't work in the Derwent either so I guess I'll continue to sharpen those by hand. So while I can get some use out of this sharpener and did save a few dollars, the use will be limited and not what I was hoping for.
