Sherpa 2.0 1 Bike, 2 Bike Add-On

Rock-solid, rattle-free rack that feels like it was engineered by people who actually use bike racks. I run the KUAT Sherpa 2.0 on two electric bikes and it has been fantastic. Assembly was quick, just a few minutes, and it took another few minutes to get the hang of how the arms and trays work. After that, it is one of those setups where you stop thinking about it because it just works every time. The fold up feature is a big deal in real life. Being able to fold it up by simply tapping the foot pedal is incredibly convenient, especially when you are loading and unloading often or parking in a garage. It also gets compliments regularly, which sounds funny to say about a hitch rack, but it really does look clean and well designed. What impresses me most is how solid it feels on the road. Once it is tightened down, there is no rattle at all. The whole thing feels tight, stable, and thoughtfully built, not like a bunch of parts bolted together. It also locks easily, so it gives me peace of mind when I am stopped somewhere and do not want to worry about someone walking off with it. Overall, this is a very well thought out rack that is practical, compact, and clearly engineered to last. I love it and would buy it again.

If you're invested in mountain biking, this is a great investment. Rack holds two bikes each up to 50 Lbs recommended. Many bikes today won't weigh 50 lbs unless they're cheaper materials or an Ebike. If you have Ebikes, I recommend getting a heavier duty rack if the weight is close or over 50 lbs each. This rack is light, and just does its job. It's very easy to unlock the hatch and pull the rack out and throwing it in the back of the vehicle if necessary for car washes, auto work, or maybe you're traveling and prefer to keep it safely put up when not in use. It seems pretty sturdy and well made, however the plastic parts do feel flimsy for the price on the wheel attachments. However, I have not had an issue after a months use with them. It's very easy to put bikes on and take them off. The adjustable position of the rack is very useful and seen in my photos. Helpful Hint: When attempting to lower the rack with bikes on, give the rack a little lift before pulling lever. I've noticed some friends struggle with the lever when attempting to lower it, but a slight lift remedies this. The lever should ALWAYS be easy to push. You're doing it wrong if it's not. Bikes have plenty of clearance between eachother. Bikes included in pictures are a red Medium Trance Advanced Pro 27s, The Medium Metallic Blue Talon 27s, and a large grey stance 29s. I highly suggest watching a couple videos on building it. It is very easy to do yourself and tools are provided, however do NOT tighten bolts before lining the entire rack up. The holes DO line up, but thats without tightening it down first. If you tighten it all down before finishing assembly, your bolts will not line up with holes. If you leave it loose, it is very easy to line up all bolts. Assembly did not take long. Did it alone and had it on my vehicle in less than an hour easy. I'm very satisfied with the rack. I love how light and easy it is to adjust, yet quite sturdy and reliable feeling. The hitch tighten feature is very nice, but it does leave the rack tilted slightly which might agitate the OCD. The rack and bikes move very little. The bike lock that comes with it is a nice touch, but in reality most bike locks will only deter small time criminals. A professional thief will be able to remove most locks within minutes including this one. You'll have to invest in a heavy duty one if you prefer to leave the bikes locked out of view, which personally I would never do. If traveling and making frequent gas station stops etc, the lock is useful for a little added security while you run in. Overall, a worthy investment if you're invested in Mountain Biking. Im well invested in multiple bikes and I have full confidence in this rack with my bikes. Definitely recommend if you're on the fence. Your bikes deserve this rack. I bought Sherpa 2.0 for my 2019 Santa Fe. I assembled it according to the factory instructions without any difficulty. I knew about the negative review of N. Hanks on Amazon. This customer had a melted tire hook that was close to the exhaust pipe. I hoped I could avoid this problem as this rack met all my requirements: it is lighter than others, carries two bicycles, is easier to use and more aesthetically pleasing compared to others. However, after installation Sherpa 2.0 into 2” hitch receiver (Curt # C13195) I ran into the same problem described by N. Hanks: “When the rack is folded up, the tire hook and rear tire strap are about 4 inches from the exhaust pipe on this vehicle.” I decided that there really is a danger of spoiling the plastic parts and I need to look for a solution to the problem. I decided to swap the Inner Tray Assembly and Outer Tray Assembly. The rack design allows for this. The disadvantage of this assembly option is that the pivot handle is in slightly less comfortable position, but fully functional and hand operated. Now when the rack is folded up, the distance from the exhaust pipe to the plastic part is about 8 inches. This modified assembly completely solves the problem of damage to the rack parts in my case. I am very pleased with the purchase and would recommend this rack to anyone with regular, not long wheel base bikes.

TEN STARS!!! I'm an over 60 woman. Searched and studied a long while for the right bike rack for my Subaru Outback. I'd hoped to find one I could use for 3 bikes (2 grandkids, was hoping to be able put all our bikes on. Alas, this one does not expand. It does have a two bike maximum.) Realized though that I should be considering the overall weight. This rack at 35# is PERFECTION! I did need to find the best video for assembly (check out Rack Attack and their Sherpa 2.0 video) it's fabulous and that takes you all the way from assembly to putting it on your vehicle's tow hitch and also loading bikes and all the functions. Once I found that it was smooth sailing for the minimal assembly that is required. I was absolutely tickled when I got it put together and carried it out to my car with ease and put it right on the hitch. It tightens down wonderfully with no sway or wiggle. I pick up my bike tomorrow and that should be easy peasy. I plan to take it off when I'm not transporting my bike and that will be absolutely simple. I am thrilled with my purchase! I believe I will come to find it is worth every penny. I'm good about updating as time goes on so if anything changes with my love story, I will post an update. UPDATE: borrowed a bike today from a friend. While I am finishing up my shopping for my bike. I had to drive interstate and it was extremely windy but the bike sat Rock solid in the cradle of the rack. Was fabulous. I'm so happy I bought this rack!!!

I bought this bike rack because it was recommended by many people and I have seen many of them in parking lots at trailheads. It was easy to assemble particularly if you follow the directions and don’t remove the body of the rack from the box first. Ingenious of Kuat to use the box as a staging area for assembly. The rack works very well, folds up into a compact size and has a handy lever to enable lowering it so you can get into the rear hatch of the vehicle with the bikes on. I like the gesture that allows you to tighten the rack to the vehicle’s receiver so it doesn’t wobble around. It’s lighter in weight than other racks I’ve used so it is much easier to put on and take off the vehicle. Although it is somewhat more expensive than the competition I feel it’s well worth it and recommend it to anyone who needs a well constructed bike rack.

Before you buy this rack, read my notes on the installation below. This is an amazingly heavy duty bike rack. Once secured to the vehicle and tightened using the easy-to-reach hitch stabilizer, it doesn't move at all. The packaging was really well thought out, and the rack comes wrapped in some thin foam and has protective tape to protect the finish. Open the box carefully, because the contents are carefully packed in a way that the box works as an assembly platform. There are only 4 bolts, 5 washers, and one nut to attach, but it would be difficult to hold everything in place without the box. Everything else is made of sturdy steel tubing that is cut perfectly to lock into place together. This makes it easy to assemble as a one person job. One thing to watch out for! The instructions tell you in Step 5 to install and tighten the long bolts that hold the platforms to the main crossbar, then insert a perpendicular bolt below in the "rear tray holder". In my case, inserting this third bolt was impossible once the long bolts were tight. I had to loosen everything up, back off the rear tray holder, and then I could just barely install the third bolt through the rail holder. It was tight, but turning the bolt helped to get it all the way through. I saw a couple of one-star reviews that said the bolt holes didn't line up, and I suspect it's because they followed the instructions to the letter in Step 5. This rack is head and shoulders above most similar racks, and Kuat makes very high quality parts. This rack sits one below their flagship model, the NV 2.0. Unlike that rack, this rack is a fixed 2-bike carrier, and doesn't have the option of adding a 3rd or 4th bike carrier, or the somewhat gimmicky repair stand. It also doesn't have built-in cables, just a single lock (uses the same keys as the hitch lock) and an included external cable that plugs into it. On the bright side, it's significantly cheaper, and importantly (to me) weighs significantly less, making it less of a hassle to install and remove. With the 40 pound per bike limit, and 14.5" between bikes, you can carry two of nearly any bike, with the exception of some particularly heavy e-bikes. I wanted a rack that would safely hold my irreplaceable classic bikes without worry, and wouldn't need any stabilizer straps. With my 2" receiver hitch, it is rock solid, and doesn't move at all. Minor complaints: Even though the hitch has a built-in stabilizer, the locking hitch pin doesn't tighten, so it can rattle (a rubber band can prevent this). The rack rides just a little low to the ground for my taste, a couple of inches lower at the back than the 2-bike NV 2.0. It's not perfect for everybody. If you are doing hard-core off-roading, this rack will probably hang a little low and sticks out a little far. For those that need high ground clearance, 1Up USA makes racks that work great for offroad adventures. For those looking for a great sturdy rack that can handle a little abuse while protecting your bikes, this is a great choice.

This rack is really solid. Its functionality is amazing. I am able to install it easily by myself. I would highly recommend this product!

Fantastic rack. Regularly do 300+ kilometer trips with two bikes on the back without issue. Did a 3700 kilometer round trip to the mountains with two bikes on and no issues the whole time. Love that the pin also has an alan key the size of the bolts that may need to be snugged up. Cable lock is great addition as well. Sellers were great to deal with and responsive. Would purchase the rack from the sellers again.

Desde que lo instale no lo he querido retirar de mi auto mi camioneta luce mucho más y combina con el gris de mi cv5 a la perfección el montar y retirar las bicis es super sencillo y no se mueven para nada en la descripción decía que era para tirón con entrada de 5 pulgadas pero en realidad es para entrada de dos pulgadas y trae un adaptador que no ajusta al 100 por lo que se mueve bastante al ir en movimiento sin embargo nada que ponga en riesgo las bicis o el vehículo

Excelente calidad; muy sólido y resistente; además, las bicicletas quedan más altas protegiéndose así de alcances de otros coches. Armarlo fue muy sencillo con herramienta incluida y con un torquímetro (20 nm) mío.

I love this rack! Rock solid, easy to load, and the ability to tilt it outwards when loading is super helpful. No swaying and dancing of bikes while travelling. Being able to lock the rack to the vehicle, and also lock the bikes to the rack means peace of mind, both in town, and when parked in the middle of nowhere. I also can't say enough good things about the customer service of mes amis at La Boutique du Lac! Purolator delivered my rack - but not to my house! After driving around, looking for the front door in the picture Purolator sent to document "delivery", I was able to convince the homeowner I wasn't a porch pirate, and retrieved my package. There is _nothing_ on the Purolator web or customer contact information to bail you out from a mis-delivered package - unreal. La Boutique du Lac followed up on my email right away, and I hope they'll convince Purolator to step up their customer service to a similar level of excellence. I mounted the rack on my Chev Colorado, and when laid flat, there's at least two or three inches clearance below the open tailgate. Assembly was fairly straightforward - with the excellent pointers from Dan S: don't completely tighten the two long bolts holding the trays onto the base of the rack until _after_ you've installed and lightly tightened the third bolt - the "rear tray holder" bolt. Dan's tip to use a rubber band to keep the hitch pin quiet was the icing on the cake. He left a great review - just search for "Before you buy" - and read closely. Also, the manual should note that - before you try to install your brand new rack into the hitch receiver - you need to loosen the cam that stabilizes the whole assembly. The instructions tell you to tighten the hitch cam after you've installed the hitch pin, but at least in my case, it was shipped already tightened. If you don't back it off, the large ball bearing on the leading end of the hitch assembly will bind, and you won't be able to slide it into the receiver. That had me swearing softly until I figured it out. Lastly, in the likely event that you don't already own a torque wrench - and an 8mm hex bit socket - you'd best go out and buy at least a basic torque wrench while you're eagerly waiting for your rack to arrive! I have no idea how you'd know when you're at 15 ft-lb otherwise. There's a fair bit of slack, somewhere between 10 ft-lb and 15 ft-lb, so you'll either stop short of the proper torque, or blow well past it. I needed to re-torque just a tad after my first couple of trips, and am now very much forward to a summer of bike shuttles while paddling. Thank you to La Boutique du Lac, and Kuat.
