Cute story for cleft affected children
I am the mother of a child with cleft lip and cleft palate and have started a nonprofit called Dylan's Smile ([...] I had hoped to find a book to give to new families as they begin their personal journey through surgeries, therapies and the social encounters that ensue. This is a cute book - however, I was confused a little by a few details (the little girl has a scar on her lip, but was only said to have cleft palate). It's one of the better books I have found, and the art is so cute. Thank you to the author, Kate Gaynor, for providing this children's level literature.

Good for speech
This book is a great book for kids with a cleft lip and palate or are having some speech issues. I thought it was more about understanding more of the cleft lip and palate and not about speech. But a good book none the less.

Okay
I bought this book to help aid in understanding for those patients I work with that are living with cleft lip an palate. I felt like the story focuses mostly on speech therapy and not all the many diciplines and events that occur with a child living with cleft lip. Good story to read for entertainment but not so much for reaching children about this diagnosis.

VERY DISAPPOINTED!!
This book is advertised as a story book to help kids understand cleft palate and cleft lip.....I had bought this book to send to our daycare so all the kids could get a better understanding of cleft lip & palate...HOWEVER, this book mentions nothing of cleft lip and only that she was born with cleft palate...Mainly the book talks about her speech issues and going to therapy, etc...No where in the entire book does it even talk about cleft lip, but yet the pictures in the books she has a scar on her lip???? Doesn't make sense...I now will need to go spend more money on another book. I had such high hopes for this book to fall hard with disappointment:(!!!

Loved it
My 4 yr old really liked this book. We got it since her little brother was born with a cleft lip and palate.

Didn't like ending.
Great story until she wins the speech contest. It would have been better if she would have overcome her fear, felt she had done her best, and won admiration for all her hard work. I showed two mothers of cleft preschoolers and they both didn't want to read it to their children for that reason.

A Friend like Simon
I had heard great things about this book and I must say that it has lived up to my expectations and is the perfect way to introduce ASD to young children. It's a lovely story where the autistic child is celebrated as the hero despite the other children's reluctance to include him at first. Highly recommend this one.
