Tremendous, haunting
I really do regret putting off reading The Poe Clan for as long as I have. This is my introductory work to Hagio Moto though I am a lover of Showa-era shoujo manga, and much like The Rose of Versailles, this is an exemplary work of its genre. The page layouts alone are to die for - and the lyrical prose and non-linear structure of the story elevate it beyond great comics into great literature, in my humble opinion. Thought-provoking, romantic, tense, at times almost horrifying; this is a massive tome but a real page turner that didn't take long for me to finish. No, it won't be for everyone, but if you're allured by the artwork and the premise it belongs on your bookshelf. Very eager for part 2.

Beautiful and thought provoking
This manga is an amazing piece of art and almost like a combination of literature and movies at their best. Both the stories and visuals are beautiful and thought provoking and show us the deepest feelings and emotions we may be able to experience.

Great copy, could use better wrapping
What an excellent copy! The hard-cover, large-print format showcases the beautiful and delicate arts of Hagio Moto in all their glory. Smooth translation. However, this is an international delivery so the seller should have wrapped it more carefully. As you can see from the pictures, a corner of the cover is dented when I received it.

A very old narrative style
I'm giving this manga 3 stars, but I absolutely hated it. It took me a year to read. The second chapter was absolutely the worst of them. This is because the stories, though linked somewhat, were mostly episodic. So there were lots of characters that didn't return every chapter. It seemed to dwadle with the plot and move so fast at the same time. The intial chapters take the narrative form you'll see in really old novels like wuthering heights. That is to say the main characters aren't initially introduced , but are slowly drawn out as the chapters go on. I was sooooo boreedddd. Frequently the panels were very difficult to follow, because they were both busy and sloppy.Edgar being obsessed with his sister was just obnoxious. Of all the series I've read by moto haigo I liked this one the least and I would not get the 2nd volume if they ever do release it.None of the characters were worth caring about. I'm genuinely confused why everyone has been so positive here lol
