it's perfect for one pistol with up to three additional magazines ...
I own two of these, one for a Sig Sauer X5 with optical sight ( Trijicon RM01-C-700063 RMR 3.25 MOA LED Red Dot Sight, Nickel Boron ), and one for a Sig Sauer P226 Legion SAO. Both are full size pistols of a similar size to a 1911. Although the description states that it can contain two pistols, if you're using a substantial child lock (I use the CHILD GUARD CS-100 Adjustable Firearm Safety LOCK ) on both, two pistols won't fit. Having said that, it's perfect for one pistol with up to three additional magazines on the top layer. You could squeeze a box of 50 9mm, .40, or .45 in with the pistol if you're willing to cut into the "egg carton" foam to make a space. The padding is excellent, (the aforementioned interlocking "egg carton" type as opposed to "pick and pluck") and does a great job of holding the pistol in place. I feel confident that you could close the case and shake it, and the pistol wouldn't move. The bottom layer of "egg carton" foam can be lifted out, revealing another layer of flat foam underneath, and small items could be stored there. I keep a hex wrench, screwdriver, and extra earplugs there, as I feel that anything bulkier would interfere with the top layer. The locks are more than adequate, but the keys feel a little flimsy. I was apprehensive at first that the keys would bend or break in the lock, as the locks are initially very stiff, but the locks loosen up over time, making turning the key easier. Let's face it - the locks are to keep children out, not deter a thief who would simply steal the whole case and Dremel the locks, and they're more than up to the intended purpose.I like the fact that the case has a locking hinge. The lid opens up 90 degrees and stays there until closed. The exterior is sturdy aluminum, black diamond plate. So far, it's resisted scuffs and scratches. The corners are reinforced with plastic, and the case has plastic feet on both the bottom and the side, so the case is on plastic feet when standing up or laying down. They're affixed firmly and show no sign of coming loose.I paid $50 for my first case at my local gun shop, and paid less on Amazon for my second. At $50 they're good value, and anything less is a bonus. All in all, a great way of protecting your valuable handgun.

Great for the range
This is a nice carrying case for taking two revolvers to the range. I’ve got an N frame S&W .45 revolver and a J frame S&W .357 magnum revolver in there right now. The foam is dense and thick enough to hold both revolvers firm in place. The outside aluminum shell is sturdy and looks quite nice. It’s framed in well and pleasant to the touch and the eye.The buckles are decent. Not incredible, but decent and will likely work well for years.I wouldn’t use it to put onto checked baggage at the airport unless it were inside a larger suitcase. Definitely not a stand alone piece for checked baggage. To transport two revolvers to the range or out camping this case is great. To lock two revolvers up safely from a child in the house this box would work unless the child is a proficient locksmith. For around 30 dollars I’m very pleased with this case and would buy another if (when) I buy more firearms.

It's an OK case. The locks are cheap and a metal handle would greatly improve security. For the price I would buy again.

Not secure but good for stuff like range trips
Feels nice. I like the foam. The locks are garbage though. Probably easily pickable and I think it might be possible to break the latches open with nothing more than a pair of needle nose pliers. Or some kind of small tool to pry it. The thin u shaped lock part that holds onto the top half onto the bottom looks easily bendable and one side isn’t even tight enough to keep it from wiggling. Feels like a decent place to keep a handgun but it doesn’t give me a complete sense of security that when it’s in there nobody can touch it.
