Just unpacked mine. The globe was loose but magnetically attached to the support arm. The globe does not rotate. Is the unit defective?

Use the spacer tool at the top of the stand to make the globe levitate. Give it a very gentle spin counter clockwise and it will then spin until being touched or power is lost.

Does the magnetic field levitating the globe also rotate causing the globe to spin?

Yes the globe absolutely spins unless you don’t want it to. You can push the globe up to top and the magnet will catch it if you don’t want it to spin.. but yes it spins and it’s awsome
