An 8oz dead blow hammer has 8oz of shot. The given weight of a dead blow hammer is not indictive of it's over all weight; it is indicates the weight of the shot it's filled with. The given weight of any hammer does not include the handle, just the head.

Great little hammer for light duty work when you don’t need to use a larger much heavier hammer. Decent quality. Good value. Recommended.

For an inexpensive hammer this one has held up great

The hammer I received has an 8oz factory sticker on it, but the hammer displays 1-1/2 lb. which would be 24 oz. I'm not sure if that is a manufacturer error or Amazon. It will work for what I need so I have decided not to return it.
