GOOD BUY
Great adaptor. Metabones set the standards for autofocus adaptor and this work well with my canon 50mm 1.2 on my A6300. It was a good buy.

just hate how expensive it is for something like an adapter
Sure. It's solid and it works....just hate how expensive it is for something like an adapter, especially when it renders auto focus unusable cause it's so slow...

Not perfect, but pretty good.
I think there are two distinct considerations. First, is this the right adapter for me? Second, should I even be using an/any adapter? Is this the right adapter? For me, I'll go with "yes". As a professional photographer, I've gone down the path of buying too-cheap equipment enough times to be tired of getting burned. It's also important to avoid too-expensive, and this adapter may be in that category. The price will definitely be greater than the budget or desire for many photographers. As a professional with many lenses and camera systems over the years, I'm on the border of wondering that same question, but I'm not dwelling on it. (If I do, then I'll probably concede that yes, it's pushing into the too-expensive category.)The physical/mechanical characteristics are nice. The fit is clean and the interlocking is solid. I have no concern about equipment safety when using this adapter. I also like the tripod foot that's built into this adapter. When I use a heavier lens that doesn't have its own foot (like the 24mmTS), I now have a way to shift the weight away from the body. Note that the Fotodiox adapter also has a tripod foot, which is probably the main competitor to Metabones. For focus performance, yeah, everything you've already heard still applies. It works well with some lenses, not as much with others and not at all with even others. There are too many combinations to cover in one review and that information is available in other places. The answer is: be ready for it to work sometimes and be ready for manual focus at other times. That having been said, I really like using the Sony a6000 with this adapter and my 70-200/2.8 lens for sports. With the focus peaking and magnification features, manual focus is pretty easy. The fast frame rate of the a6000 is really, really nice. Depending on the sport and how you frame shots, this may be an option. I actually like this setup just as much as my 5DIII although for different reasons. I shoot a lot of tennis and cycling, and it works well for tennis (but not as easily for cycling).Should I even be using an/any adapter? Or, if I choose to use an adapter, what should I expect?I think that there are two main camps of thought on adapting non-native lenses to a mirrorless body. The first camp is size & weight. If that's your thing, then you probably should stay with native (i.e., smaller) lenses for the mirrorless system because as soon as you start adapting big lenses you are back to nearly the same sized (and weight) rig. In that case, there's no reason for an (or any) adapter. As obvious as this sounds, I've seen others go through the same line of thinking with, “oh, I'll get a smaller system and I can adapt my existing lenses.” Soon they're back to nearly the same size and weight as before. The second camp is technology (in the body). If you're going for the technical innovations like focus peaking or multi-axis in-body stabilization or WYSIWYG* shooting, then an adapter will bring you the technical features of the body and the lenses that you love. (* = what you see is what you get)As a side point, I also purchased the “Speed Booster” from Metabones. Briefly, the difference between these two is that the Speed Booster includes an optic that focuses the larger image circle (of full-frame lenses) to a smaller image circle that still (mostly) covers the smaller APS-C sensor. This has the effect of widening the view and makes the lens feel like it's on a full-frame body. Also, the compressed image circle causes about one more stop of light to hit the sensor (which gets reported as an aperture that is one stop larger – even though the aperture size isn't actually larger). In some cases, the focusing was faster on one adapter for some lenses, but faster with other lenses on the other adapter. However, even with full-frame lenses, I'm getting some vignetting (which is why I bought the second adapter – this one).Ultimately, if your priority is size and weight, don't get an(y) adapter. But if you're looking for the technical advances in the body and you're comfortable with manual focusing, then an adapter makes sense (whether it's Metabones or another brand).Update:I went ahead and tested this adapter (and the Speed Booster) with several lenses. Here's what I found...Tested with the following Canon lenses:10-22/3.517-40/4 L18-135/3.518-200/4.5-5.624-105/4 L28/2.8 (old lens)28-105/3.5-4.5 (old lens)50/1.470-200/2.8 IS-II70-300/4-5.685/1.8100/2.8 LOn this adapter (Mark IV):100/2.8 L wouldn’t lock focusEverything else worked okayOn the Speed Booster (not this product, but as a reference for a different product):28-105/3.5-4.5 wouldn’t lock focus28/2.8 didn’t recognize lens (completely non-responsive)24-105/4 L hit/miss on focus (weak)50/1.4 didn’t recognize lens (completely non-responsive)Any EF-S lens doesn’t mount

Works great until it loses connection with the lens
Metabones website claims "Precise fit and solid connection - lens has no play, gap or wiggling when mounted on adapter and no adjustments are required to fit your lens." however there definitely is play between the lens and adapter, and every few shots it will suddenly stop working. This has cost me a few shots with unexpected failures.

LIGHT LEAK! DO NOT BUY!!!!!! PLEASE READ!I am having major light leak issues. I am unable to do long exposure photos. I attached a photo as an example. I did many test to be sure it is the adapter that is causing it. I am 100% sure it is the adapter. I can get the light leak to go away if I use my hand to cover the adapter where it connects to the lens. I contacted Metabones multiple times and I haven't even received a response. Also, the autofocus is terrible. a firmware update helped it but it is still very slow and inaccurate. I purchased it from SSE Photo&Video on Amazon. I contacted them and they were rude and offered no help.

The adapter works extremely well. I use Sigma lenses for Canon mout & had no problems. Focusing in very low light can be a challenge. For that, I just used the focus peaking & all was good. I would highly recommend this to anyone that has Canon glass & wants to try Sony mirrorless.

AF works better with the MB vs
I decided to pony up the bucks for the Metabones Canon EF adapter for my Sony A7II. I already have an off brand adapter that I bought for $129 and to be honest I feel the Metabones is not worth the extra money. Yes, AF works better with the MB vs. the off brand adapter but AF is still a worthless function even with the Metabones. I can manually focus faster and more accurately. I give it 3 of 5 because it's great to have the ability to use glass other than Sony. I deduct a star for poor AF function and another for being far too expensive.

Essential for Canon shooters sneaking into the Sony camp!
The ability to mount my *beautiful* Canon EF lenses on my *also beautiful* A7R II is life-changing. I'm no longer locked into Canon's glacial upgrade cycle! Autofocus works, and the stabilization on the Sony body makes things quite usable. I may succumb to a few of the Sony G Master lenses, but in the meantime, it's great to be able to use my Canon glass.Make sure you go to [...] to keep your firmware up to date. There's a sneaky little micro-USB jack on the bottom of the adapter. Use it to load new firmware; the version it shipped with was woefully out of date, and performance improved significantly when I did an upgrade.
