Very good for $20+
I have always carried a pocket knife for things like opening cardboard boxes, and most of the knives have had were smaller than this one. Since the election of you-know-who in January violent hate crimes and other violent crimes have risen sharply nationwide, and the recent murder of two guys who were helping a young, young Muslim woman in Portland, OR have me worried. I am 70 years old, and I am not the kind of person to carry a gun. I now carry this knife and Sabre brand pepper spray EVERYWHERE to be safer. I am really surprised at what a good knife this is. I have a bunch of old, French kitchen knives, and they are always razor sharp. This makes me a bit qualified to talk about this knife. The two things I didn't like were the clip (I keep it in my pocket, so I unscrewed it) and the thumb pin (easy to unscrew & remove). This is nothing negative about the knife -- I just don't want them. This knife somehow weighs a lot less than it looks like. Since I keep it in my front pocket this is good. The handle is large and very "grippy", which is also good. The drop point, if that's the right term, blade is the shape I like for what I use it for, and it is quite substantial (0.115", which is almost 1/8", thick at the back). It is not fancy looking, and I don't want a knife that draws attention, so that is another plus for me. For a little over $20 I have no regrets at all. I now feel a little safer with this & my pepper spray, but this peacenik hopes I never have to actually use either for the legal protection (under 3.5" blade) of me & others. It will do a great job of daily tasks, such as opening boxes, stripping wires, cutting string & rope, etc.

Impressive
First of all, there are plenty of other folding knives I would recommend before this one for a few reasons, but despite that, I would still recommend this. It's become the fourth knife in my pocket after my Schrade SCH501, CRKT Pilar, and FORESAIL. KA-BAR isn't known for its low prices. It's known for its more reasonable or high prices. When you consider that they're the same company as Cutco, you form a picture that they make kid-to-high-priced, reliable, high-quality knives. The last thing I expected was a super inexpensive folder that basically competes with Spyderco. I've been impressed with it so far in quite a few ways. First, the AUS-8A steel is really good, being an excellent upgrade from the venerable mid-tier AUS-8. Second, it seems like they've heat treated it really well, because it feels solid as a rock. Third, it's fully ambidextrous, which is nice to see even though it's not generally a factor for me. A fourth, the locking and folding actions are really well done and feel solid. My only complaint is that it's not easy to deploy one-handed. It can be done, but it's harder than most of my other knives, so it's not the one I go to if I only have one hand available. Everything else is either great, or acceptable as part of this type of design. Like Spyderco knives, the body is entirely made of polymer. That's just an artifact of this entire style of knife, so it's not a nitpick. If that's the kind of knife you like, this is a good option for you. Overall, the fit and finish is really good, and despite its light weight, it feels like it's worth what I paid for it—and then some. I wouldn't put it to any hard tasks, and I won't take it into the wild, but it's excellent as an EDC knife in town performing light tasks, just like most Spyderco knives. It fills the same niche. If you want a good, reliable pocket knife that won't let you down, I'm going to recommend some others first, but then I'll also recommend this one.

Nice EDC
This is a nice EDC (everyday carry) knife. My criteria for an EDC is that the knife be reasonably sized with a blade under 3.5 inches, which is the legal limit in my area, that it be under 3.oz in weight and be relatively thin. This knife meets all those requirements. Then I look for build quality including blade steel and this knife for being ~$20 is very well made and steel is quite decent. The steel is AUS 8A and the handle is Zytel. It has no blade wiggle at all and locks open securely. It is also made in Taiwan, which is a step up from being made in China, in most cases. I've used it for cutting cardboard, opening letters and slicing an apple and it has excelled at all those tasks. I haven't had to use it to defend myself from a horde of zombies, but the fact that I find it comfortable to wear and have with me when out and about provides me comfort should the situation arise. For the price I believe this is one of the best EDC knives available.

Great value and quality
I purchased this to be a knock-around utility knife to carry in my pocket every day. For a pocket knife at this price point, I was pleasantly surprised at the solid blade lock-up and the high quality of the blade and handle. I especially like the grind on the blade. It came sharp out of the box but needs a little touching up to make it "scary" sharp. I have big hands, so the handle seems a bit thin, but that makes it less noticeable when I carry it in my pocket. The only con I have is that the notches cut in the top of the blade where it connects to the handle are very aggressive and if someone were to try doing heavy tasks without wearing gloves, it is possible they would have a problem with the notches if they rest one of their fingers on them. It takes a little work to open because the spring is so strong, but I like that. Makes it less likely to ever open in my pocket by accident. I'll probably remove the little thumb tab on the blade because it is difficult to open the knife using the tab (spring too strong), but that would make it less likely to catch on something inside my pocket. All in all, a very nice, budget knife that will see a lot of use. Plan to get one for my daughter as a gift. I had hoped it would be a good quality knife because it carries the KA-BAR name. I wasn't disappointed.
