Clear, insightful, and inspiring!
Leslie Frontz's book is a wonderful guide for beginners and advanced watercolor artists that includes a clear and straight-forward approach to watercolor, with inspiring examples to boot. I am just starting out with watercolor and one of the biggest issues I have had with many watercolors books out there, particularly those targeting beginners, is that more often than not I am just not inspired by the examples provided in the books. I understand this is very much subjective but I just unable to read through a book with examples that I do not find inspiring. So I am very thankful that I found this book, which provides a number of examples by the author and other artists that I do find tremendously inspiring accompanied by insightful guidance about the watercolor medium. I could not recommend this book more.

Love the time spent on color thery.
Very well organized book. Loved the section on color. Many artists write books, but are not easy to follow. Great book.

some weaknesses
This book is very through in some instances and vague in others it assumes the step process for painting wet in wet should be understood without demonstration while easier flat washes are throughly represented. The subject choices are not my preference this a City scene subject matter book

Aptly Named
This is an excellent book! Leslie Frontz covers each of the most important aspects of painting in watercolor in a clear and concise way. She doesn't get sidetracked by the minutiae. She includes paintings (her own and other artists') as well as great demonstrations which illustrate her points. This is my new favorite watercolor instruction book (and I have MANY).

Not for True Beginners
I bought this book based on the title. I do not share the opinion that it is for beginners. This book would be lovely for a beginner who has experience or interest in drawing. This book was not my speed or my style.

Excellent book for beginners
I got it in Kindle format.I was able to get some fairly decent paintings using the exercises in the book.I like that the book told you exactly what colors to use, and sometimes offered substitutes if you didn't have the exact color. That being said, painting is a lot harder than it looks. :)

Good intermediate book
This book gives many step-by-step demonstrations, but knowledge of the basic mechanics of watercolour painting is assumed . This book excels particularly in teaching value, and has an excellent section on colour mixing. Recommended!
