MINOGUE KYLIE KYLIE CHRISTMAS ( DELUXE ) CD+DVD

A superb Christmas album from Kylie
Kylie Minogue's first U.S. hit was a cover of Little Eva's 1963 hit, "The Loco-Motion," written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin, which came from her 1988 debut album Kylie: Special Edition. The single reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It's not as good as the original, but is far superior to Grand Funk Railroad's 1974 heavy-metal version.Although Kylie continued to have hits in her native Australia, the U.K., and Europe, she had little success in the U.S. until her 2002 album Fever, which featured the hit single "Can't Get You Out Of My Head," which climbed to #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the album reached #3 on the Billboard 200. I own the latter track on the CAPITOL RECORDS 60TH ANNIVERSARY box set, which Amazon no longer sells. After several years away from the U.S. market, Kylie is back with a new Christmas album, co-released on Warner Bros. Records and The Beatles' old label, Parlophone (now a WB imprint). The album is excellent, and shows Kylie's versatility in styles ranging from big band to adult contemporary ballads to dance music to jazz to disco. There are duets with Iggy Pop ("Christmas Wrapping"), James Corden (of CBS's "The Late Late Show") ("Only You," not The Platters' 1950s hit), her sister Dannii ("100 Degrees"), and, with the help of producer Charles Pignone, a "virtual duet" with Frank Sinatra on "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town," taken from Frank's 1957 ABC-TV Christmas special, HAPPY HOLIDAYS WITH BING AND FRANK, a special episode of his series, THE FRANK SINATRA SHOW. This episode is available on DVD.Kylie also performs Andy Williams' 1963 hit, "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year," with an arrangement similar to Amy Grant's 1992 cover, "Winter Wonderland," "Santa Baby," in an arrangement fairly close to Eartha Kitt's 1953 original, even using the original "'54 convertible" lyrics, "Let It Snow," a jazzy Kylie original called "Oh Santa," and several contemporary songs. The bonus DVD has music videos for six of the album's songs. Although a little grainy, the videos are a real treat.Although I'm not a big Kylie fan, I really loved this album and highly recommend it. Five stars.

Deck The Halls with Disco Balls
This album is highly infectious and completely intoxicating. What's not to love when you put Kylie and Christmas together in one stellar package. The choice of songs is excellent and Kylie is in top form vocally. I don't have one single complaint (not even the fact that Iggy Pop shows up for the party). Don't hesitate another minute, get this fantastic collection immediately. This is going to hold a very special place in my Christmas album collection. Thank you Kylie for sharing your glorious gift with us all these years and finally giving us this wonderful Christmas gift.

The album is a good mix of Christmas classics and original content
The album is a good mix of Christmas classics and original content. I tend to buy Christmas albums from Mariah Carey to Frank Sinatra, and the wide range of sounds and feels can be found here. The classic songs are nostalgic and fun, and the original songs have that "christmas sound" yet can be heard year-round. My personal favorite new song is "100 Degrees," but it helps that I like disco. This is a great addition to anyone's Christmas collection, whether or not you enjoy her standard pop songs.

Best Christmas album with one flaw
I love Kylie's personality and this CD is my new favorite Christmas CD with several standout renditions and new songs. I do have one major complaint that made me drop a whole star (sorry, Kylie). Winter Wonderland is my favorite classic Christmas song, but she sings a modified version: the snowman lyrics involving "Parson Brown" and getting married are changed to something about a "Santa clown" until "the other kiddies knock him down." It really irks me that my favorite song has had lyrics changed, probably to appease religious-phobic types. I can't think of any other reason for it, but it really does pull me out of the song... not just hearing the new lyrics, but knowing they are coming, especially if singing along.

Great album.
Great album. Not a bad track. Perfect for background music for the season as your family does holiday activities. My favourite original track is 100 Degree which is a disco inspired song about celebrating Christmas in regions such as Australia where the weather is nothing close to what you would expect. Every Day's Like Christmas, written by Coldplay's Chris Martin, is also a favourite.Classics include It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Let It Snow, Santa Baby, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Kylie at her best!
This is the best holiday album I've heard in ages. Don't expect a typical Kylie dance album. Instead you get lush strings, horns and background vocals that are masterly produced with Kylie at her best. This is a nostalgic recording of old and new gems. Buy it and be surprised!
