Great for FoxESS inverter
Bought this to use with Home Assistant and my FoxESS inverter, as this was one of the ones listed on Nathan Marlor’s GitHub page. Great device, hasn’t needed a reboot so far, and the USB extension lead and mini-screwdriver are nice touches

Works great so far
I've only had it a day, so I have no idea how long it will last - but for now it is working great, unlike my previous RS485 dongle which just stopped working one day.

Works with Solar Assistant (connects RS485 inverter to Raspberry Pi)
A quick a simple review for those like me and wanted to install Solar Assistant to monitor their solar inverter performance. The cables from Solar Assistant are twice as expensive as these although admittedly a little more asthetically pleasing. Unfortunately they take 12 days to arrive so I ordered these. My only criticism, and it's very slight, is that the screw terminals have clearly tightended by Arnie himself so they take a bit of effort. Very happy with the purchase

Small but functional
Works fine after driver install ( Device Manager is your friend) but its bulk blocks other USB ports. That would be a reason to use the supplied extension lead then. They also supply a cute little screwdriver for the terminals, which is a nice touch. The LED's are almost useful, but they're not pulse stretched so it's hard to see what's going on on the lines. Nevertheless, recommended.

Perfect for connecting an inverter to a rasperby pi
Wanting to connect and control a Sunsynk inverter with Solar Assistant and Home Assistant, I needed an RS485 converter. This one was easy to attach to an old Ethernet cable, and just worked. Add cable, plug in and Solar Assistant done.

Compact and easy to carry around
Easy to have in your bag for when required. Didn't get the relevant drivers straight away so had to go on to website to get them but other than that works fine

Worked a treat
Super little unit. Far cheaper than some other USB to RS485 devices.

Useful
This is not a general-purpose RS-485 interface but supports the usual requirement (start-stop communication).Measurement confirms a 120Ω matching resistor between the A and B lines. It's not clear that any internal idle-state biasing satisfies the RS-485 specification, but biasing resistors could be provided externally.Experiments at 1200 baud and 115,200 baud show that transmission is satisfactory: the driver is enabled (driving logic 1) for one bit time before the first "start" bit (logic 0); characters can be transmitted "back to back" (no inter-character gap); the driver is disabled immediately after the last "stop" bit.
