Good value knife of this size
I am a fan of these Schrade knives as great budget value knives, generally in the $25-35 range. They are generally 1095 steel, well designed, and ergonomic, and have serviceable sheaths with extras like ferro and sharpening stone. I wish they offered a useful blade guard to protect your hand if you have to stab. I have several in various bags and vehicle kits, and several set back as gifts (last minute on-the-spot type gifts for which we all find ourselves in from time to time). It's the price of a large pizza! Pick some of these up and you'll be happy.

Good knife not so with sheath
I like this knife its more knife than I had in mind that it be. Blade is nice and thick, splits small wood nicely does feather sticks ok took some time for me to see how the knife was to be angled but no need to put a lot of pressure while doing feathering. Knife was not that sharp but still worked well. The one part of this that I feel schrade has let me down is the sheath kydex or something else been better than the nylon sheath, threads already coming apart in two places on the sheath. The snap that holds the knife flops around and makes it hard putting the knife away. I like the kydex or whatever it is inside the sheath that keeps the knife from cutting the nylon great idea. But its a cross draw for me the way it came you can turn it around but then you have to cut the fastener that holds it in place and that most likely will lead to more threads being cut and falling a part. I have three schrade knifes and one old timer all of them taylor brands. This is the first sheath I am not happy with, I'd trade this one for a leather one. The handles are really nice I like them very much fit my hand nicely. With my whining the knife still is a very good deal. And I'd given it a 5 star if not for the sheath. Thanks

Amazing knife, perfect value
Amazing knife. It's a beast yet feels amazing in the hand. The micarta scales are just amazing looking and really grippy. The sheath is just ok. Ferro rod is great and sharpening stone is ok. I really don't see why someone would buy a bk2 when it will cost over double the money for a micarta upgrade. I am absolutely confident to recommend this. I might get an other shrade really soon!

Wish they'd put out more like this
If your into tactical bushcraft knives this is a must have. Well thought out, easy to sharpen, and will take a beating. Great knife

A Better Knife at This Price Doesn't Exist.
I couldn't decide between the 51M and the 52M, so I go them both. My son and I used them to harvest fat wood and both performed better than I had expected. The 52M's added length provided a little more real estate for batoning. As thick as they are, the finger choil allowed both knives to be used for finer cutting (making feather sticks). I found the factory edge to be just fine, and as much as we abused both knives, they held their edge. There is no jimping on the back of the blade, but I was still able to get a good purchase with my thumb. Yah... the blade is THAT thick! I will, however, be adding my own jimping for an even better hold. Schrade's quality control could be better. I too had a blade that wasn't quite straight (51M), but my other four other Schrades are fine. Then again, I'm not putting any of them in a display case either. I am extremely pleased with how well all of my Schrades perform, but if I had to choose just one to have in my kit, it would be this one. For what it's worth, my son prefers the 51M also.

Great knife for the price, deserves more attention to finish detail.
Just received this sweet knife today and overall it is just as I expected and I am generally satisfied. There is only one thing keeping me from giving the Schrade SCH51M five stars, and it is the unmatched grind angles at the tip. I have tried to show this in one of the photos. The two sides are way off. If this were a higher end knife I would be sending it back but being as it is a budget knife in my view I will simply correct this myself. Since I was planning on stripping the finish anyway this is nearly a non-issue for me.Otherwise the knife is fantastic and performs as well as can be expected for a knife of this design. It handles chopping, splitting, and batoning with ease and is plenty sharp enough to make feather sticks and get a fire going. The included ferro-rod is actually much better than I expected and stands up to any of the $20 rods I have used in the past. The sheath is adequate considering the cost, but the sharpening stone is useless, in my opinion. For this reason I have ditched the sharpening stone, along with the striker, since the spine works perfectly for this purpose. In its place I have put a small tin with some fish hooks, line, and other survival essentials which I think makes much better use of the pouch.Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase and will certainly consider other knives in this series for the future.

Quality, materials, and price, it's a go.
Found schrade and this latest version after a lot of self educating and YouTube. Considering the bargain you'd have to be in very extreme situations to require any greater reliability or performance. You could go through three of these to hit the price difference on other comparable knives. But you won't. Schrade has my attention.

Not much good about it
Out of the box, the knife was dull. In fact it was the dullest of any knife I have purchased. I spent hours working on it to get it to be usable. I did get it sharper but still it remained less sharp than any of my other knives. The third time I used it to baton, it snapped in two. It is heavy, doesn’t fit well in the hand and if I had a boat maybe I could use it for an anchor.Buy something else.
