All of mine had the metal ferrules. I ordered a 6 pack from e-marketing solutions on 12/30/2016.

Yes, 12 hangers total. I received 6 packs of 2 hangers in a USPS flat rate envelope. Very good deal I believe. :)

Q: Can you use this to hang sun sail shades over backyard?

Yes you can. I am using them on my sun shade on my deck and in my backyard and they work great.
