The scale itself has several useful functions lire Tare
I have used the My Weigh for about a month. I use it several times everyday to measure my food intake for the purpose of reducing my weight and measuring the proportion of my daily nutrients ( Fat, Protein and Carbohydrates) in conjucntion with "loseit" a weight loss and calorie counter.) This has worked very well so far. I have found it more accurate to use the scale than estimating how much I eat. I have not calibrated the scale, it requires using a 5Kg weight to do this. This kind of calibration weight is more costly than the scale itself. My comparision of weighing say 500cc of water on the scale show that it is very reasonably accurate for my needs. Others in this review have also commented on the very good accuracy of the scale. There have been comments of the plastic that covers the keys breaking. I find that there is no need to remove it and it serves to protect it from accidental spills. The scale itself has several useful functions like Tare, and also different weighing systems oz,lbs, grams, cc, fluid oz etc that are convenient to use. I have found that the scale could shut off(timeout) in the middle of weighing several items. This is something of an inconvenience and I had to work around this. There is an option in the set up to put the timeout at infinite, however either this setting is reset by itself, or does not work. All in all I am satisfied with the operation. I treat the scale carefully, that is I am careful not to damage it. I hope it will last a long time, and there are peole who in their comments have used it for years. I do like this scale and am happy to have bought it (on Amazon).Somethings I like,Uses AAA batteries or optional external power converter. (coin size batteries are expensive)Size is convenient for Kitchen use.Convenient functions as in most scales (Tare, oz,lbs,cc etc)Large LED display.Easy Key pad access and additional plastic protection against spills.Accuracy is very good. Can be used to weigh up to 5Kg (10lbs)

Purchased for 6th grade science fair, but will use it for much more!
Overall, I'm very pleased with this scale. I purchased it for my son's 6th grade science fair experiment because we wanted accuracy in grams to two places. Units available on sciencekit.com began around $100. This one didn't break the bank and toggles easily between grams, kilograms, ounces, pound-ounces, and pounds. The cheap batteries were dead upon delivery, but put three Duracells in and the operation is far more professional and precise than I would expect for a $30 scale. I've had no problem getting it zeroed out and being able to get it to show the exact same weight for an item multiple times. --One thing to remember if you want to have any kind of scale to weigh more precisely (including bathroom scales) is to have all four feet/pegs on the bottom on a flat surface. If only three are making good contact, scales can indeed seem to fluctuate and appear to not give you a precise reading.Size is perfect....small enough to store easily, and yet big enough (steel weighing surface is 7" x 7") to hold larger items without extra effort to stabilize them as you would need to do on a smaller surface. Purchased for a science experiment, but can already see that I will be able to use it for calculating postage, etc, as it seems to be capable of accurately weighing lightweight items like a sandwich bag all the way up to a heavier item like a cat! (weighs up to 15.45 lbs) Also, the blue backlight makes the numbers super easy to read. The only slightly negative thing I have to say about this purchase is the box it comes in is a little cheesy. The scale itself looks impressive (even though the weighing surface is the only thing that is really stainless), but the box sort of has that "Ronco" product look about it. The box says the unit is designed in Canada, engineered in Germany, and manufactured in China. I would hesitate giving this as a gift, as the box cheapens it and really does not do justice to the product inside. Also, the company might be better off NOT including batteries since the ones they include don't seem to work as another review has also stated.

excellent food scale
This is my second "My Weigh 7000-Gram Stainless-Steel Kitchen Food Scale. The first one is still in active use. This scale is handy, easy to use, read, and clean. It sits at a good height and weighs far more than food. I have used it for mail and anything else that needed to be weighed and would fit on it.I love the covers that protect the keys and the cover that protects the whole front unit.I can't recommend this scale highly enough. The 30 year warranty doesn't hurt either.

Great for baking!
I love the plastic guard that goes over the buttons, makes cleaning off very easy. I really like that it can be plugged in or run on just batteries! Price was right!

Good enough
Good scale that works quickly... most of the time. However, if you leave a quantity of food on the scale for a few minutes then try to add more, it won't recognize the change. I was trimming fat from some meat and then packaging them up in 1 lb bags for freezing. I would add about half a pound or so, followed by nothing for a minute or two as I trimmed more fat. The scale wouldn't recognize the new food I added. I would have to turn off the scale, remove the food and then add the food back to get a proper weighing. Not a huge deal (you can solve this by trimming all your meat before breaking out the scale) but still an annoyance. Also, the splatter guard on the buttons/screen is nice, but another minor annoyance that you have to move each time you want to tare... oh well. Does what it is supposed to do.
