Q: How is this controlled? Can an Arduino and labview be used?

I have built many machines using Arduino to control these linear actuators. I normally use the AccelStepper library and a TB6600 stepper controller. Works quite well.

Your program will control the stepper driver to control the motor speed. So the motor speed could be as slow as needed. For example, one step per minute.
