Awesome
Loved the book and really enjoyed this movie, follows the book very closely! A lot of mediocre and negative reviews on here which i think are unjust, everyone was expecting it to live up to The Shining i think ?? I mean seriously its probably in the top 5 Horror movies ever made so that was hardly likely even though kubricks movie didn't follow the book !! It doesn't matter though Because this follows on nicely from either kings book or kubricks film however you like to look at it and compliments both to be fair. Watch for yourself and judge . . .

Movie of the Year. So far.
It is Long. But then again so are all Stephen Kings Books.Yes it is a little slow for the first 30 minutes.Soon changes up a Gear into a Thrilling Horror Movie.I haven't Read it. But I did read The Shining a long time ago.Danny Torrence is in a bit of a Mess. Something to do with his Dad?It's a Complete Offshoot to The Shining.Flash Back Scenes to The Shining do not contain Original Actors (Perhaps they are Asleep?)The thing about The Shining, in My opinion it is one of the Best Horror Films ever made. Something to do with Kubrick being at the Helm?Doctor Sleep Standing alone really is an enjoyable Movie. If you haven't watched The Shining get it.Couple of slight flaws, it is not in DTS HD Master Audio, the Dolby Soundtrack is Good. And when you stop the Disc it revertes to the beginning upon Restart. Just use the Pause and keep your eye on the Chapter you are Viewing. No Probs.Had a quick watch of the Extras, they are O.K.I have even watched the Directors Cut (Disc 2), 30 Mins extra. I only picked up one extra scene?Time for another watch of The Directors Cut.Doctor Sleep really is a Good Film.

AN OFTEN CHILLING AND SINISTER FOLLOW-UP FORTY YEARS ON.
Because of the impending release of Doctor Sleep on Blu-ray/DvdI did, because I thought it would link and make sense of this film again, watch the film The Shining a few weeks back.........This film split into six chapters starts off just after The Overlookexperience for Danny and his mother, both still haunted by the events that occurred in the hotel that relived its memories. At that time we see a glimpse of 'The True Knot' a cult/group of vampires led by Rose The Hat (Rebecca Ferguson) who survive by feeding off the power of a dying abductee's who possess the gift of Shining.30 years pass, Danny (Ewan McGregor) is now virtually a drop-out, an alcoholic, after stealing money from a young mother he'd slept with, Danny (Dan) gets another visit from a ghost from the past Hallorann (Carl Lumbly) and realising he could sink no further moves to a small town in New Hampshire where he is befriended by a man who sees Dan as troubled, Billy (Cliff Curtis), he helps Dan set up with a place to live and guidance from friends who have had problems with stuff like drink. In the apartment there is a wall, a virtual blackboard, Dan begins to receive messages in chalk, realising they are from someone who like himself has the gift he starts a conversation in chalk.Meanwhile, the group/cult continue all these years on to abduct feed off and kill youngsters with the gift, the numbers of which are becoming fewer, Rose picks-up on the hugely talented and resourceful Abra (Kayleigh Curran) who is Dan's blackboard friend and will become the sinister cults next target.Abra who has had visions of the cults attack on their recent victimseeks out Dan to ask for his help in stopping them, Dan though explaining the shared gift with her is reluctant to get involved. However, with Abra's convincing guidance of where evidence can be located, Dan with his these days best-friend Billy will investigate her claim.Obviously a showdown will occur, though the final one will be at the obvious venue.Must admit with the inclusion of vampire's in Stephen King's follow-upto the 1980 classic film wasn't what I expected, however, it was hugely more enjoyable than I'd anticipatedCertainly holds your attention.Have to say the casting of characters such as young Dan, his mum and indeed Hallorann was pretty good. The film with Its sinister plot is I feel well worthy of a viewing at the very least ...

Whats It All About Danny Boy ?
Great films fly by Gladiator,Braveheart,The Shinning,Joker,Fury Road. This crawls by all 3 hours of it !The shinning was a great film with quite a easy to follow story,it also had Jack Nicholson in it one of the greatest of all time. This is overlong by an hour ,is very hard to follow and at the end of it all is very very boring ! Not a film to unwind by at the end of a long day.

Good but not brilliant.
This was entertaining enough, but if you'd not read the book and weren't going, 'hang on a minute, he isn't supposed to die...' every five minutes then it would have been even better. Certainly they did the effects well and for a very long and complex book they condensed it well. Not scary, but a mine of dark imagination and creativity... My main criticism would be that a lot of King's genius was lost in the rush to get to the huge, prolonged cinematic end of shock and pyrotechnics, after which it got a bit tedious. I like to continually find out more and more not sit through a really long ending. Also Rose the Hat is far too pretty - she is apple pie perfect wife and mother material (She was lizzie in the White Queen) whereas she should have been darkly beautiful and exquisitely sinister, with a single long tusk!!! Just saying... otherwise recommended.
