Top quality
The Pachmayr Recoil Pads are the most effective I've found. I've purchased 3 in the last month. I use them to take the punch out of my higher caliber rifles as well as to lengthen the pull. They lessen the recoil substantially. I've had need of both the small and the medium sizes and both fit the guns they're supposed to fit. The rubber used is of high quality, enabling them to slip over the butt stock easily and remain snug with use.

Shockingly effective
As I’m writing this review I realize when I ordered this thing I didn’t realize it was a Pachmayr. Probably because it was so inexpensive and I just I didn’t notice but they make pretty good stuff usually.I don’t get to use the stock on my shotgun that I would like. I have to make a compromise for functionality and portability. So I have a very stiff collapsible arm style stock that is a very unusual size and quite frankly it hurts. It started getting to the point where I didn’t want to use it Unless I was using the 1 3/4” mini shells and those are almost impossible to find now. There’s some very popular products in the market but I couldn’t get them to fit on the unusual end of the stock that I use. It’s a fold out but stock that is wider than most. I actually tied a block of firm on the end of it one time and tried that out and it felt a lot better so I knew I had to come up with some kind of solution. I found this and it was very reasonably priced and I was pretty much sure it wasn’t gonna work out. This thing is shaped like a traditional stock and I just didn’t think it was gonna fit. But because it came in three sizes I ordered the largest one and figured I would give it a try. Much to my surprise it worked amazingly. The opening is large enough that I can see that on the end of my stock and it stays secure while I’m using the gun.It looks like it has several different types of honeycomb / baffle structure in their design to absorb the shock and it’s surprisingly effective. Even with 3 inch shells this thing will save your shoulder. I sometimes go shoot with a lady friend of mine who is not a very big person and the one time she tried to use a 12 gauge the results were both frightening and comical. She can actually fire slugs using this. It’s still not her favorite thing but this makes the difference between being able to use it or not at all.One other thing that’s a little bit funny is that my laser fits perfectly inside of the shock absorber. So when I’m not using it I put the laser inside of the cover to protect it while it’s in the scabbard pouch.Pretty amazing for twenty bucks.

Support Your Local Shoulder!
When I was younger I relished recoil. The more the recoil the more manly I felt because I could take it and it was a sign that I had a "real" gun in my hands or mounted against my shoulder. Being older and having gained in wisdom and lost in testosterone, I find that the only relish I have is that on my hot dog or burger. Having broken a collar bone in numerous places also has diminished the need for heavy recoil. I still love heavy recoiling firearms, but I don't manage the recoil very well any more. Enter the recoil pad.I had been looking for a good recoil pad for my Mosin Nagant outfitted with an ATI stock and decided to try the Pachmayr Decelerator Slip-On recoil pad for giggles and tee-he's. As the manufacturer states, "The fastest mounting slip-on at the range or in the field" is a truism. The pad popped right over the butt of the ATI stock and actually looks at home there, considering the most slip-on recoil pads look like a truck tire mounted on a Volkswagen. The "small" Pachmayr Decelerator Slip-On recoil pad fits an array of rifles and shotguns including Marlin 336, Mossberg 500, Remington 870 and Savage 110 among others. Be sure to look up the size chart to fit which products fits your firearm. Aside from looking good when mounted; it has a stylish curve to it, the recoil pad actually works. The Mosin Nagant rifle went from a slam to a gentle push when outfitted with this pad even when fired from a bench rest position. Less recoil also equates to a lesser tendency to flinch and a greater tendency to get back on target quickly. As with most recoil pads, it does add some length to the LOP of your firearm. If you have long arms, as I do, this is a added benefit to the less perceived recoil when the hammer falls.Do yourself a favor, even if you have lots of testosterone, try this pad out.

Your Shoulder Will Thank You
Before I put this on my 12 Gauge Shotgun, I had to wince and take it with every shot. My shoulder made me pay every time I pulled the trigger. Now, there is a much softer push against my shoulder, and a few hours at the range is nothing, even when using high velocity slug rounds. The cover snugly envelopes my gun stock and remains in place. The only bad thing is that it increases your LOP (length of pull) by about an inch. I'll take the extended LOP rather than a sore shoulder anytime.
