Coding Roblox Games Made Easy: The ultimate guide to creating games with Roblox Studio and Lua programming

Good intro to coding Lua for Roblox games
This is a pretty good intro to coding Lua for Roblox. It does not hold your hand, however, so if you have no coding experience at all or don't understand object oriented programming, this may not be the first book you should pick up. There is a good amount of sample code and corresponding explanation, but at times I found myself having to go back through and re-read a couple of times, do some googling, etc., which is perfectly fine - that's the best way to really learn. I got this book to help my young son learn how to build his own games in Roblox and as a team we have done a pretty good job. He designs the levels and I hook the code in. :) For reference, I have a BS and MS in CompSci and am a data scientist so I have quite a bit of background in coding but am not a software engineer. This book was a good balance for me and I'm really impressed that it was written by a college student. (Who is also really a nice guy - he reached out via twitter to thank my son for some artwork he made for one of Zander's games). Zander, you have a bright future ahead of you.

Great for beginners
I'm a bit older than most and I have been looking to pick up a new skill that would jog my brain. My son recommended I learn how to make stuff on Roblox and this book has been very helpful for me to learn programming and understand what young people are doing in technology this day and age. Definitely recommend!

Written for adults only. Don't buy for your 14 year old.
The language in this book is written at a college educated adult's level. Which is ironic given that little kids, pre-teens and teens are the ones that want to develop Roblox games, NOT adults. You'd think the author would take this into account, but they don't.The book also assumes the reader is familiar with how software works: basic foundations - when in reality most kids break into coding and software development by building games on platforms like Roblox. They don't take formal foundational courses - so the author missed this point as well. Here's a random sample paragraph from the book (pg 52), "In programming, a variable is a way for your code to hold various types of data, or data types. Variables are convenient because when you create one, you can give it an identifier so that it may be easily referenced later. In most programming languages, these variables are typed; this means that the type of variable must be declared when it is created. If you were to create a variable that holds a number, for example, you could only assign data that is a number to that variable. In Roblox Lua, variables are not typed; if you were to initialize a variable as a number, you could later set it to anything else without issue. "Words & phrases non-college educated kids will likely not understand:- "hold various types of data"- data types- variables- convenient- identifier- referenced- "these variables are typed"- "must be declared"- assign- "variables are not typed"- initializeThis is just from one paragraph. The book is filled with adult-only programming jargon. It's anything but 'made easy'.Bottom line is this book was written for adults that are already familiar with programming. It obviously wasn't meant for kids, pre-teens or teens without a background in programming already.

My Son Uses This Daily
My 11 year old son is teaching himself how to create Roblox games and he's made so much progress since I gave him this book. He refers to it for everything and regularly tells me how valuable the information is.

Very poor beginner book
For a big ok that claims to be for beginners (like my son) there sure are a lot of references to C programming. Parts of the book are really just incomprehensible gibberish. Pass.

Great way to learn to create Game with Roblox
This book is a great way to get started even if you're entirely new to Roblox. The first few chapters will walk you through the initial Roblox environment. You'll learn how to save and publish your games, navigate the workspace, and interact with a myriad of other menu options. Then you'll be brought up to speed on Roblox's main programing language, Roblox Lua. This book is very thorough so you won't need to have any previous experience with Lua to get the hang of things. The book goes over everything from variable to conditional statement to functions and events. Towards the end of the book, you will take all of that knowledge and use it to create some Roblox game. You will be managing the player data, spawning loot, creating player rewards, and learning how to monetize your game by creating shops and managing in game purchases. If you're looking to dip your toes into Roblox Game development then this book is worth it.

Très bon guide de base
Très complet sur les bases et surtout possibilité de télécharger les exemples. Un récapitulatif global et deux projets en description.

It's a lot.
This book is dense, and not an easy read for kids. Bought this for my son. Too much for him to absorb. It's not "easy" like the title suggests.
