To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of 'She's the One', we are releasing a remixed, remastered and re-imagined version of this album. The original album included several songs that were left off the original 'Wildflowers' (1994) album (recently included as the 'All the Rest' disc in the 'Wildflowers & All the Rest' re-issue), so this re-release is an appropriate ending to the campaign celebrating the Wildflowers-era. Ryan Ulyate (Tom's long time engineer and producer) has remixed the audio, and the song selection is designed to work as a TPHB album, rather than a soundtrack album. Four unreleased tracks have been added; the rocker '105 Degrees' (written by Petty), a cover of JJ Cale's '13 Days', 'One of Life's Little Mysteries' (another Petty original), and an instrumental ('French Disconnection') in the same vein as the instrumentals on the original album.

Fantastic but an oddity
A bit of an oddity this one. Removing the Wildflowers era diminishes the album compared to its previous incarnation. Of the extra tracks Thirteen Days is fantastic and 105 degrees a great dumb rocker, the remix is fantastic and the remaining tracks are full of lots of great stuff with Angel Dream being a classic ballad. If you have the Wildflowers reissue but don’t have the soundtrack original definitely an essential purchase but if you do it’s a stretch to justify unless you want it for Thirteen Days. As for the cover , an acquired taste……I kind of understand the logic to this but let’s hope future releases are more substantial in the way the fantastic Wildflowers set was.

Unessential, but interesting nonetheless
I wasn't going to buy this album. A reworking, essentially, of Petty's accompaniment to the film, 'She's the One' would be far from any fanboy's favourite album. The original running order had some really decent numbers, but a lot of this owed to what eventually came out of the Wildflowers sessions. Released after the recent Wildflowers, expanded reissue, 'Angel Dream' takes off those off-cuts and replaces them with some bonus tracks from the 'She's the One' recordings. The result? Genuinely a good little album, actually, and one I probably should have bought earlier - particularly as it's under a fiver at time of writing.'Grew Up Fast', 'Change the Locks' and 'Climb That Hill' are all reminders that, though the '90s was a year of mellower Petty and a more 'mature' sound, the legendary musician could still rock and roll when he wanted to. They're some really great, heavier numbers echoing what was to come with, well, 'Echo'.It's a shame the (in my opinion) superior version of 'Walls' is gone, but '...(No. 3)' is still a gem, and the bonus tracks of 'Thirteen Days' and '105 Degrees' - especially the latter - are awesome! It's great to own those on physical media. Is this better than the original 'She's the One' soundtrack? Possibly. Possibly not. Either way, it's far from essential for the casual Petty fan, but an interesting deep dive regardless, and a nice little addition to your bookshelf. This CD is a slim digipack, with a booklet containing all the lyrics, and the CD itself. The cover is also pretty neat, too. Not bad.
