It was everything I had hoped for on the subject of dinosaurs. It covers the all aspects of dinosaur science, including their evolution, cladistics, paleontology and paleobiology, and it does so in a way that is easy to understand. An excellent introduction to this diverse group of amazing creatures.

I have used this book for three years to teach a college freshman level course about dinosaurs. The authors are deservedly well respected dinosaur experts, the writing is mostly good and fluid, the illustrations are excellent (the biggest reason to buy the book, in my opinion), there are relatively few errors that I have found, and instructor resources from the publisher are good (starter slide sets, figures, test banks, videos). It is a really wonderful package.However…* the organization is a bit odd to me, how it spits out phenotype and behavior from phylogeny in many chapters…it makes me restructure a lot for lectures* I think that the origin of birds (in their part II on Saurischia) would be better placed in part IV on dinosaur systematics* there are a few quirks like using Eurypoda, which should be deprecated in Ornithischia because it is junior to a beetle clade; some inconsistencies in -inae and -idae in the section on Ceratopsids, etc.* expensiveOverall, though, an excellent introductory text. Definitely recommended.
