Slow and steady pressure.
This is a wonderful system and works great. As does all of Kreg products. However I had to learn to drive the screws is a little slower that I might otherwise drive them. The driver started to round over because the bit would jump out of the square hole in the screw. A slower method with constant pressure solved the problem. Do not use a hammer drill. It exacerbates the problem.

Great inovation by Kreg.
This new system of securing deck boards could not be better. Easy to use and very secure. Since only 2 scrows need to be used on each side you eliminate 1/3 the number and cost. The idea of the side ports also makes a less-than-ideal spot for the joist to be used.

The screws work good
The screws work good, the Kreg Deck Jig is awesome - I just wish the bit that comes with the box of screws lasted long enough to drive all of the screws. Order an extra bit / driver with each box of screws and you should be fine.

Driver bit could use improvement
I didn't want to face-nail my deck boards, but I also didn't want to spend a fortune on a deck system that I used only once. This seemed to be a good compromise. The problem is, the driver bit strips out too quickly in the odd-shaped screw heads. I think a square drive head would be better. I did find that if I ground off the worn out end of the driver bit it extended the bit life a bit, but after using up three bits to drive 800 screws, I have a half a tub of these screws left and no bit to drive them with. It's not a bad system for what it is, but it's really not durable enough for the long run.

Great screw that is easy to use.
These screws are great for areas one doesn't want a large screw head showing. The head just disappears into the material. I like the drill syle point that accommodates easy screw starts and the aggressive thread style. More expensive than deck or drywall screws but for most jobs ease of use offsets the cost. If you don't need the large head and want a clean screwless look this is the product for you.

Well worth the price!
Worked perfectly on our new heart redwood deck. Well hidden using the Kreg deck jig and my husband never had one fail while installing them. Highly recommend if you are looking for a smooth outdoor “floor” on an outside deck.

Predrilled for best results
Screws were easy to install with Kreg deck jig. I also installed some screws without using the jig with no problems.

Heads strip easily and screws are brittle
Heads strip easily and screws are brittle. The special drive used for this head is worse than Phillips for stripping.I used the screws without the jig for a simple installation for 2 X 6 deck boards. They seemed to work quite well, until I had to remove several boards to fix a hidden problem. The heads would strip when I tried to unscrew them. I had to pry the boards up and then knock the screws through the boards from the bottom. Then I could usually unscrew them without stripping. Sometimes I had to drive them out even further with a pin punch, and then use a wire cutter to grasp and unscrew them. Many of the screws were broken off.I removed all of these screws and stored them and the remainder of the box in the garbage. The GRK trim screws achieve the same result, but the heads never strip, and they are far less brittle.I have decades of experience in driving screws with power drivers without stripping their heads. I never have a problem with GRK.
