FINALLY got around to using this the last few weeks. It's great, MUCH easier to cut out fabric than with scissors. You have to use some pressure, but it cuts cleanly. Somewhere along the way I lost the ruler that came with this set; I ended up buying another one, and I would STRONGLY suggest that anyone else in the same boat do so as well. The rotary cutter moves so easily and quickly once you get going that it's very easy to swerve and not cut on the line. The ruler helps immensely with this.Also: I recently purchased two other kinds of blades for this cutter: "10 Pack 45 MM Pinking Rotary Wave Blades NEW Refills with Snap Closure Decorative Edge SKS-7" sold by HJAR and "45mm Rotary Cutter Blades (Pack of 5)" sold by Tamper and Twine. Both work in this rotary cutter, and actually both work very well so far. Changing the blades is quick and easy and I haven't been nicked once. I bought the pinking blades so that my woven quilting cottons would stop fraying so quickly, and the other blades as backups to this. The first blade that came with this set is still sharp so far despite having cut out: 1.5 yards of woven cotton in a number of pieces for bags, 2 yards knitted polyester/cotton for a dress, and 4 yards woven polyester for two shirts.While I can see the slices in the matt (especially from the pinking blades), they are all shallow enough that fabric still slides smoothly across the top, and there's no difficulty in cutting out more fabric. The ruler and grid aspects to the matt are tremendously helpful.

So, for years I have made a baby quilt every time there was a new little one in the family. I do fairly simple designs but always try to tell a story. I always cut guides from card board to measure shapes and cut them with scissors. As you may imagine it took considerable time. I saw one of these cutting systems in a fabric store but the price was up there. I've recently been ordering from amazon, we live in the middle of national forest and the nearest stop light is 70 miles away. So shopping is a day trip. Anyhow, I decided that this might really help me and the price was much better on amazon. I was willing to take a chance, I ordered it and made a quilt for my new grand baby that is arriving in May. The design I used needed very exacting cuts, I expected it to take me a month just to get the top done let alone put it together. Start to finish it took me 5 days, about 25 hours. Being that I'm self taught I imagine others could have done it faster but I was very please with the quality I could turn out because of my more exact cuts. It made it much easier on my back as well, not as many hours spent bent over to cut. Then I had intended to store it flat in it's box under my bed, but my husband accidentally took the whole thing to the dump, I liked it so much I ordered it again. So truly it was worth twice the price to me.

I bought this for a project I am working on but when it arrived I was working on another project that I was able to use it for. Mat is fantastic ..no complaints........the ruler need the little grip tabs on the bottom of it because I noticed that when I put it down on a large piece of thin material, when trying to smooth the material...it moves other than that...it's great......the rotary cutter...cuts fantastically, the biggest issue I see with this particular cutter is safety, the whole time I used it, I was afraid I was going to end up cutting myself, that blade is super sharp, which is exactly what I but the stick rotary cutter just feels unsafe, maybe it's my own inexperience with it but I had a different one before and I don't remember feeling this way when using it. (It was also Fiskars) I bought all of these as replacement items that I lost in a fire.EDIT: I used this whole set for hours yesterday and the more I used it the more I became comfortable with using the rotary cutter, it's just common sense things, don't cut towards yourself, fingers etc. The blade is extremely sharp and I didn't cut myself once.

Loved the price and quality. It shipped in very quickly. Better price than at JoAnns or even Hobby Lobby.

I purchased this discounted to about $25.The mat alone makes it nearly worth the price paid. Nice heavy quality mat.I'm new to rotary cutters, and have to pay attention to keep the edge of the handle away from the ruler if using it as a guide. Perhaps all are like that, but it can push the blade away from the edge of the ruler and desired line. Otherwise works well as an entry model.The ruler is good, but the lines are a little thick and make ot a little difficult to tell if they are on a desired mark or beside the mark. Also, I would prefer not having the 1/2 inch seam/hem edge along 2 sides that makes those edges not a zero starting point for measuring. I'm sure that's useful for some purposes, but caused me to have to redo a few times. Still happy with it overall as part of the set.All the items were well protected in the packaging.

Im so impressed with the price for all these items, as they cost much more separately. Everything works fine, and i love that its fiskars because it easy to confidently replace blades.
