Its just a simple wind up watch with no battery

Q: Is it water resistant?

It is to a point. Don't swim with. Seems ok for splashing and showers.

Q: Can the watchband be extended to 8.75 inches?

I'm afraid I don't know. I had to take my watch to my repair shop and ask them to remove a few links so it would fit my wrist. In other words, the particular clasp does not allow for expansion like a regular clasp sometimes does. I would recommend you ask your watch repair shop to see.
