One cup had four caterpillars and the other six so we had ten total. Two were far smaller than the others but fortunately all ten became butterflies. The last two came out of their chrysalides about a week after the others did. The booklet said the butterflies will emerge after 7-10 days and to wait 3 days for the chrysalides to harden before transfer. That time table was way off! We had caterpillars form chrysalides 1-2 days after the other ones so figured we were safe to transfer at what would be day 5 for the earlier chrysalides. The next morning the butterflies had emerged while still in the cup! We had to quickly transfer them to the habitat, fortunately all survived. The release was fun, my daughter put her hand into the habitat to help them out and some crawled onto her hand before flying off. They stayed in the area for a while before disappearing into the wild. We still have the last two butterflies which we will release soon.

Bought this for my six year old neice and wow was it a hit!! All of the caterpillars survived and changed into butterflies. The instructions were educational and easy to understand. She was fascinated watching them change over the few weeks. I received daily calls from her with updates on their progress. She even told her teacher and now they're ordering a kit for her class. Today is release day and she is so excited. Definitely worth the price.

Love this kit and have bought it a few times over the years. Great for beginners.

Bought as gift for grands.. they had so much fun

Three generations loved watching the butterflies grow and eventually fly away. We will do it again.

Gave this as a gift to a couple of older people. They seemed to like it. Gave them something to do and was fun and different than the usual gifts.

Product met my expectations!

The media could not be loaded. So I was skeptical, but thought this was a neat idea for summer project with my 3 yr old. I could not believe how small the caterpillars were when they arrived, and they were not moving at all! I thought they were all dead, so I opened the cup (no no) and they all immediately started moving. They grew so fast like over night! Then they made their cocoons & I picked up the cup (no no) to take pics & let my daughter see them. I followed directions and moved them to the habitat & they scared the crap out of me when they started moving in their lil cocoons! I cleaned what webbing I could, but I left the poop sacs (no no) cause they were hard to get off and the one cocoon was flapping so hard I was afraid it was going to fall off! Within a day or 2 or moving them they hatched & they are beautiful!!! All 5 lived, it was a wonderful experience for me and my daughter (she didn’t really get the caterpillars part, but loves the butterflies!), will definitely do it again! 5 stars!!!!
