Size large is extremely small for my 9 year old.

Hanes makes toddler size briefs. 2T-3T size. I bought XS for my 4T son.

My son is 6 and wears a large. They are a tad roomy on him but the mediums were too tight. If your son is more slim, I'd go medium. If he's more built, go large.

Q: 77 pounds but tall & lean. Medium or large?

Your son/grandson seems like he is built just like my grandson. The medium was too small and the large was too big. So I took a chance on switching to boxer briefs in a medium. Perfect fit and he loves them! I think our boys may be too tall for medium in the briefs, but too slender for large. I think the extra length in the boxer briefs helped a lot.
