Pretty handy tool
I build high in staircases and sometimes a plum hole can be required for proper fitment. This device works well drilling a hole perpendicular to the surface. The product is a quality product. I can’t find anywhere on it where it is manufactured, but by the quality I’m assuming it’s in the USA it’s a Rockler product.

Quality machinery
This is a well designed and built drill guide. Works well and has a good range of cut.

Not professional grade
Well made but it is what it is.

Better than a drill press
This tool is very well made, very sturdy, heavy duty, smooth movement, I just can’t say enough good things about this tool. I definitely think this tool is better than a conventional drill press as it can move anywhere you need it, adjusts with ease and is compact in size. Absolutely a great design.

Well Made.
This machine helped me make some difficult work more simple. Well crafted but sometimes the stopper dial unscrews itself while your drilling.

Worth It!
The Rockler drill press is a little pricey, but worth the money. I made the mistake of buying a cheaper type of portable drill press to great disappointment! Don't be that guy! This is VERY accurate and the movement is smooth. It is so much easier to set up for smaller jobs than a full size drill press. It's become an essential tool in my workshop!

Kinda sorta good, but with serious design flaws
Five stars for versatility and precision. And yes, the chuck spins like a dream (although the chuck/key interface is the sloppiest I've ever encountered). Unfortunately this tool has some serious design flaws. First, and as substantiated in several other reviews, the drive stem is prone to breakage. This is not due to torque load, but rather bending loads. Why are there excessive bending loads? Undoubtedly it is due to the choice of slide rail bushings that are used. They just do not reduce friction enough. You will read in other reviews that rail friction is a problem. One would think that lubrication would do the trick, but no. Something about the bushing rail interaction creates a "sticky" motion which requires too much force on the drill exerted by the user. Inevitably this can cause an excessive bending moment on the drive stem, which is not good for the drive stem. As a result, user must be very careful not to induce too much moment. Easier said than done, especially at the end of a long day when tired. I found that the force required to overcome the stickiness in the bearings is inconsistent. Sometimes the drill will slide along easily enough. But mostly not. The user is left wondering if the force being exerted is from the work-piece or the slide-rail bushings. One would think that after a little use, the slide-rails would "break-in" a bit and produce more consistent loading. But no, I did not find this to be true. What to do with this thing? If the slide-rail used something like ball bushings, then this tool would be worth the money. But for the present design, I suggest looking elsewhere. Not happy with the purchase.

Works great!
Great tool for jobs that won’t fit on a drill press! I’m a wood worker, so drilling the with tool ensures straight accurate holes. I suggest purchasing the bench pads as well to ensure there’s no wandering. Sharp forstner bits are a breeze.
