What a special cookbook! Highly recommended!
So I have a cookbook addiction and have bought many, many cookbooks in the past, including many Korean ones. But as soon as I opened this book, I knew it was special. It covers a wide range of food, from traditional Korean dishes to modern interpretations of Korean classics to Korean-inspired dishes. I've made a few already and they've all been delicious! It's also a cookbook that will appeal to almost everybody. If you're unfamiliar with Korean food, the book does a great job of explaining ingredients and techniques, and often times, cultural tidbits related to particular dishes. If you're familiar with Korean food, there are tweaks and variations on recipes that keep things interesting. The recipes should also appeal to people of all cooking skill levels--you can go from simple recipes (like kimchi fried rice) to more involved ones (like making kimchi or even tofu from scratch!!!). And the photos are just gorgeous! You can tell that the authors, Kim Sunee and Seung Hee Lee, spent a lot of time and love into this book. Highly recommended! I've already ordered a few extras to give out as Christmas gifts!

Great book, beautiful pictures, tasty tast food!!
My mother is Korean and there are times I get a random craving for something that I ate a lot in my childhood. This book takes the heart and soul of Korean cooking and makes it so easily accessible for everyone! A ton of ingredients are readily available in regular supermarkets so if there isn't a specialty one nearby, don't worry! There are modern takes on many traditional Korean dishes. I love the explanation of what ingredients are and how they are prepared because it makes it easier to understand the recipe and why certain steps are taken. I've already made a couple recipes in the book! I made the soy sauce crab (picture) and WOW it was amazing. This is one of my favorite Korean dishes but I've only really had it in Korea or when my mom made it for me. I'm very excited to explore the rest of the recipes! This would be a great gift for anyone who is a beginner with Asian flavors or anyone who wants to explore Korean cuisine!

Delicious recipes, gorg pictures, not very authentic
This is not a book for authentic Korean cuisine. However, if you're just getting into cooking Korean, or want some fresh ideas, it's a great place to start. Being vegetarian there are a few recipes that I just can't make, but many of them can be easily converted with a simple swap of proteins or changing up the recipe a bit.

Fun and easy, traditional and fusion. Exciting!
I keep describing this as a fun cookbook. It's fun AND easy. You learn traditions and culture and language and that Korean cooking is NOT hard in the least! I'm sending my vegetarian kid in Germany and buying another for myself!

The pictures are great, the recipes have straightforward directions
The pictures are great, the recipes have straightforward directions, and the stories and descriptions for each dish are fun. I made the Sweet Potato Noodles with Assorted Vegetables/Japchae and it was delicious!
