I got this as a gift and it is great

We crochet in our family and are new to knitting. We found the instructions a bit challenging, because we are beginners, but that’s supposed to be who the kit is for. We haven’t finished the kit yet, because we need to find some YouTube videos to teach us how to knit before we can finish a project.The yarn is ok quality. Not the fanciest or softest, but ok for making a first project. There is enough to make a small scarf or hat, I believe, based on my past crocheting and yarn experience. The knitting needles are small and basic wood but smooth with no splinters.There are so many pompom makers in this kit! I have no idea why there are so many. But it’s great if you are looking for pompom makers. They work. We did manage to make a pompom as well as try to start a knitting project.

The instructions are well written and have pictures showing each step. The yarn and needles are a little small for ultra beginners who have never knitted before. I expected a higher quality yarn that doesn't split as much, especially since this kit is for beginners who will be working it over and over again.If I were going to give this as a gift, I would purchase a set of higher gauge needles and some chunky yarn (the yarn says right on the back what size needles to use) to go with it. It's much easier to hold onto and see what you're doing when it's bigger. You could still use the same patterns in the book, but for the very first time, use the bigger stuff.I've knitted exactly one thing my entire life and this kit looked perfect for trying again. The instructions were pretty thorough for how to get set up, but I was admittedly very confused when it came to the actual knit stitch instructions. As a result, I reworked the yarn lots and lots of times, and my needles started piercing the yarn instead of going around. That's not great, but it would happen with any yarn. My issue is that it was still happening on fresh yarn. If you're just starting out, you DO NOT NEED mediocre materials to add to the frustration.

This is very cheap. For a beginner I am having a lot of difficulty with it! I think needles are too small and yarn is very cheap!!!

I like the needles, they’re a good starting point. They should have included a chunky yarn instead of a “4” weight that’s really just a 3 weight yarn. My instruction booklet was so blurry and in black and white so making out the details of how to actually knit was impossible. I had to google better tutorials and really only used the needles and the Pom Pom thingies.

I got this to be able to teach a friend how to knit. I do know how to knit, but haven't touched yarn let alone knitting needles in over 5 years. I took a look at the booklet and it shows in very good detail how to start knitting. There are drawings and descriptions to get the steps across to you. It comes with a wooden set of needles, about 5 balls of yarn and even some pom pom makers. The only downside I see is that the yarn could be a little tighter together. It is easy to separate and I think confuse the new knitter that isn't used to yarn to pick up extra stitches. The yarn is all the same color and very soft. I also love wooden needles since they warm up in your hands and just feel good. This is a very good instructional beginner kit.
